4.0 out of 5 stars a refreshing take, November 3, 2009
By
A refreshing take on a century old melody set to a poem written by Katharina von Schlegel in 1752. This recording fits nicely into a growing body of traditional hymns reinterpreted for a generation with many varied musical influences who've rediscovered how comforting the old songs can be but don't care for the over produced arrangements their parents or grandparents listened to. I for one find new christian music largely forgettable but traditional hymns never fail to lift my spirits.

Musicologists have ignored the fact that hymns were a sort of top 40 music during the 1800's as friends gathered in family parlors to try out the newest hymns spun out in the thousands by poets/composers like Fannie Crosby and William Doane. Only the finest examples of these are preserved in today's Hymnals. they have stood the test of time and deserve revival. Can't wait to buy the rest of the album.

The style of the music in this album was a bit outside my normal preferences, but I've found the hymns and their arrangements to be amazingly insightful, creative, and unforgettable. I constantly find my self singing or humming parts of the songs on this album. Not just one, but lots of them. Amazing stuff, and clearly Spirit-filled.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dynamic blend of historical and modern church music, February 15, 2010

I think Bifrost Arts has created an area of music that many churches are thirsty for. The need for historical music (either in music or lyrics or both) that is tenable in contemporary worship is a huge lack in the worship world. Bifrost Arts begins to combat that lack with this, their first album.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fresh alternative, December 29, 2009
This review is from: Come O Spirit! Anthology of Hymns & Spiritual Songs Volume 1 (Audio CD)
I love what Bifrost is doing with Christian music. This album presents a fresh reinterpretation of songs of the Church that have stood the test of time. Not over-produced, but simple arrangements that let the message be the message. I highly recommend it.
