And it is great family entertainment, that is educational as well.
Dr. Karl O. Edwards
Instead of being about a fictional book, it's true story about the power one student can have in saving a species of bear!
Deanna L. Crask Stone
I know it is an old cliche, but one person can really make a difference.

This was a very warm and inspiring movie! It shows how one person with a lot of determination can make a difference. Before seeing the movie I had no idea of how the protection for the Spirit Bear came about or how this young boy was able to turn his fight for an animal he loved into a worldwide organization to help preserve our precious wild animals and their habitat. I was left feeling very uplifted with the knowledge that there are so many out there who care about preserving our planet and her wildlife. If you are an animal and earth lover, you will really enjoy this film. I thought the acting was a little weak and phony, but the beautiful scenery and the message it brings across makes up for it.

This is a story of a boy who would not give up.

I was so moved by this film that,as a teacher, I wanted to share it with my students, and encourage them to think about the environment and that we do indeed share this planet with other creatures.

That Simon could , as a boy, change the way a goverment thinks must be a powerful lesson to us all. I know it is an old cliche, but one person can really make a difference.

I encourage everyone to see this film. I hope it will inspire you too, as it did me.

I purchased this movie because I am a Graham Greene fan, and the movie kept showing up on recommended lists as a Native American movie. This is not a Native American movie, this is a movie about saving our environment and the fortitude of a young man named Simon Jackson.

When I watched the movie, I was totally moved by its presentation and portrayals. It reminded me of years gone by, when environmentalists picked environmental causes, not political causes; when a hand few of determined people could really bring about something great. And it is great family entertainment, that is educational as well. Not recommended for people worried about money or jobs; Marxists need not watch.

Update--1 July 2008: If this review was not helpful to you, I would appreciate learning the reason(s) so I can improve my reviews. My goal is to provide help to potential buyers, not get into any arguments. So, if you only disagree with my opinion, could you please say so in the comments and not indicate that the review was not helpful. Thanks.

UPDATE--December 16, 2010: I was left a comment today that I had failed to mention a very critical aspect of "Spirit Bear": it is based upon the actual events surrounding Simon Jackson's efforts to protect this beautiful and special sub-population of bears! I wish to thank CB,RN for pointing out that I failed to include this fact that "Spirit Bear" is based upon a true story.--Karl

I bought this DVD to show to my SLD Resource High School students. They often feel powerless with many situations that they face. This showed them that it only takes one and there is power with one voice. They were very attentive during the entire movie. It pleased me that they didn't need violence or an action-packed movie to keep their attention. They stayed awake the entire time!!
