5.0 out of 5 stars Concise and Relevant Information
Raymond Buckland has done it once again this wonderful encyclopedia. The information is clear and concise and organized in a way that it is quite simple to locate any specific topic you may be delving into.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good guide if you try to understand occult terminology.
Recommendable if you want to know more. While I am interested in the subject, I found much of it presented as if fact rather than speculation. Not good, as we know nothing for certain.

A word of warning: From the experience of a friend of mine, I can tell you that it is dangerous to delve deeply. The Occult world has a gate that, once you opened it, can not...

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise and Relevant Information, September 27, 2006
This review is from: The Spirit Book: The Encyclopedia of Clairvoyance, Channeling, and Spirit Communication (Paperback)
Raymond Buckland has done it once again this wonderful encyclopedia. The information is clear and concise and organized in a way that it is quite simple to locate any specific topic you may be delving into.

I would not consider this a book to sit down and read from cover to cover, it is as stated, an encyclopedia and therefore is better used as an encylopedia. Not to mention the fact that as an encyclopedia it is written as fact and I for one find it to be enlightening.

I highly recommend this book as a plethora of vital information regarding it's well descriptive title. Excellent. Kudos once again to Raymond Buckland.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Informational guide!, November 18, 2006
This review is from: The Spirit Book: The Encyclopedia of Clairvoyance, Channeling, and Spirit Communication (Paperback)
I received this book approximately a year ago. At first I proceeded to look up, just certain points of interests. I then decided to start from the beginning of this book and start reading it from cover to cover. I realized, that although I know a great deal about clairvoyance, channeling, crystals, and so on, (being an intuitive archangel card reader, dream interpreter, and reiki master-teacher practitioner, there is still a ton to learn. I find this encyclopedia fun, informative, and facinating! Five stars and then some!

This book is good for non psychics looking for information on the subject as well as those with psychic abilities that want a quick reference. The best of its type that I have seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Encyclopedia of Spiritualism and related phenomena, March 16, 2011

I was impressed with this book due to the depth of the information presented and the extensiveness of the book as an encyclopedia. Indeed, much of the information I had already been privy to. On a similar note, much information has been made available through this book that I did not know of before reading it. Typically with encyclopedias, I do not read them from cover to cover -they are delegated to occasional inquiry, but not complete reading. This book is different. I have been reading it as one would read a novel or any great work of literature.
In looking through the reviews, one man made it clear that Buckland presents what is within this book as "fact rather than speculation". To a certain extent this is true. However, it is a shame that the validity of the many occurences talked about are still subject to speculation. One parapsychologist I know of even stated that the standards of parapsychological study are higher and more severe than most of the other areas of psychology... If not all of them. It is odd that with so much solid evidence, skepticism and cynicism prevail. This is clearly due to much of the fraudulence that has been produced throughout the history of psychical research. And as many have said, just because one medium is a fraud, this does not dismiss the other mediums and psychics in history to fraudulence. In other words, one white crow can prove that not all crows are black, just as William James stated in regards to Leonora Piper. Indeed, psychic phenomena has far more evidence in its favor than the evidence that is antagonistic to it, despite what many hardened cynics may believe or perpetrate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very thorough!, February 11, 2011

This review is from: The Spirit Book: The Encyclopedia of Clairvoyance, Channeling, and Spirit Communication (Paperback)
lots of important people in Spiritualism are revealed here within it's pages. Names of people who helped the movement, but were long forgotten. Great pictures, too!

My only issue is that some of the reference materials listed after the articles does not seem to be in print any longer if a person would like to read further about a medium or a place.

I highly recommend this bok, though, to anyone interested in spirit communications and mediums.

A word of warning: From the experience of a friend of mine, I can tell you that it is dangerous to delve deeply. The Occult world has a gate that, once you opened it, can not be closed. While this book might help you to understand what is happening, it is your unconscious that controls this access and not your rational thinking. I have decided to leave it closed.

PS: A much more enjoyable fable on quantum field travelling spirits, is Max Pucher's 'Journey To Eden'.
