tudo bem, October 5, 2000
This review is from: Spirit of Brasil (Audio CD)
This is a great collection of music. If you're looking for an intro to the diverse sounds of a truly musical culture, it's got everything from bossa classics through the now sound of global DJs who are turning to Bahia for rootsy percussion beats.
I love the break up of acoustic and electric sets, each disc has a very different feel to it, so you can pop one in for a rainy day or chill out late nite with some heavy grooves.
Bottom line: anyone who's got a thing for musica brasilera will dig these discs.

Great Double Set!, February 1, 2002
This review is from: Spirit of Brasil (Audio CD)
This is a great release! A bit old, but it still has some great tracks and acts on it. The first disk is all about the older Bossa Nova and MPB. I wouldn't even say it is so much acoustic, however. Some of the artists on the "classica" disc (CD1) are Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque, Baden Powell, Jorge Ben, Djavan, Lenine, Carlinhos Brown and more.
The second disc has more of the "new" club sound but is really quite diverse. Soem of the eatured artists are out of Brazil and Europe. Suba, Truby Trio, Mo Horizons, Da Lata, Reminiscence Quartet, Jazzanova and even Yoschinori Sunahara all have pieces.
I'd recommend this - it gives you two sides of the spectrum and is a rare gem.
