5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best of Its Kind, December 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Spirit of the Canyon (Audio CD)
I indulge heavily in this type of music for various reasons.
One among those reasons being that I seek music to accompany my weaving of rugs using the traditional Navajo method.
Good music helps me to "go places" and assists in my creativity.
So I have a large collection of this type of music.
This cd is in the top 5.
Every song on this CD builds beautiful epic journeys in my heart and soul, that include soaring through canyons, flying with wind, dancing on waters, resting on red sands, facing the sun, and sharing with the Old Ones who's spirits sing in our canyons.
Thanks Ah Nee Mah !

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mix of nature sounds and grooves, July 31, 2001

This is the second CD by Ah Nee Mah, both released recently. Both of the CDs are excellent! This one focuses on Native American-inspired music with an edge. There are natural sounds incorporated into the music, which is a combination of acoustic and electronic instrumantation. Ah Nee Mah brings a real groove and an edge to their music, creating a dance-trance environment. The music is really distinctive, and crosses many different borders, appealing to a wide variety of listeners. I guess that the best description is to liken it to "Sacred Spirits 1" , or Enigma. I've played several tunes from this CD, and their previous release, "Ancient Voices", on a radio program in Alaska, and have received calls from all over the state asking who produced the music and how to get a hold of it. Once you hear the sounds, you will want to get a hold of it as well. Then, after you buy this one, add the first release to your collection, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected and I expected it to be fabulous ..., December 14, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Spirit of the Canyon (Audio CD)
I just recieved this in the mail this morning and I am more than pleased. The music has the distinctive Arkenstone sound, but goes beyond any of his previous efforts in many ways (imo). As stated by previous reviewers, the natural sounds actually sound real, the vocals are excellent, the music is profound.

The Grand Canyon/N. Arizona Plateau are my favorite places on earth, and this music is definitely evocative of those places. The sound clips do not do this CD justice. Buy it. I can't imagine anyone who would be dissapointed with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Accompaniment to Massage Therapy, June 26, 2004

I'm a massage therapist, and this is one of my favorite CD's to use in the office. Another reviewer called this "dance-trance" music. That's because it's both rhythmic and relaxing. Nature sounds, flutes, drums, guitar, keyboard, strings & vocal chants combine to create a musical portrait of the Grand Canyon. This is faster-paced than most massage music, but a perfect accompaniment nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily Ah Nee Mah's best effort to date, December 24, 2007
This review is from: Spirit of the Canyon (Audio CD)
This is an emotionally-positive album from start to finish, and is by far the best of all of Ah Nee Mah's efforts. It captures the magnificence of both the Grand Canyon and (likely) original inhabitants. Most importantly, it is encouraging mood music which immediately whisks you to the ancient southwest during a time when the Native Americans were strong and proud.

The presence of some modern instruments is blended well so that they do not interfere with the traditional Native American instruments.

The opening tune, Light From the East, begins with a stirring string and drum effort which sets the mood for the rest of the songs. Most likely you will be pleasantly hooked by this point. All of the songs are good, but another one that shines bright is Stormlight with an excellent mix of woodwind, drums, and guitar that stirs your blood. Firefall is a multi-layered flute and drum spine-tingler that builds and builds to the point where you might sing along even without knowing the chant.

If you are looking for some fantastic Native American music that is combined with some modern instruments, this is the album to start with. Additionally, in the same genre, I would also highly recommend any of the Native American albums by Sacred Spirit.

One note of caution regarding Ah Nee Mah albums: Some songs are also on other albums. For example, from Spirit of the Canyon, the songs Voices of the Wind, Echoes of Time, Rainbow Canyon, and River Journey can also be found on the album Spirit of the Southwest. So take a close look at song lists. Cheers. RSG.

My dear fellows, this cd is a jewel to add to your collection of New Age Music. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good mix of nature sounds and purely spectacular music. The nature sounds actually sound real unlike some "nature" sounding cds because you really feel like youre there.

I had heard this CD when I was at the Canyon last summer. Wanted one and forgot to buy it before coming back to GA. Amazon to the rescue again! This is a fantastic CD and a wonderful tribute to the Canyon and our Native American Heritage.
