In complete agreeance with first review, though will add something of my own here.
It's not only well researched and put together, it's almost believable in its entirety. I, too, was grabbed in the first chapter and did not want to stop till I was finished. The conclusion of the story doesn't seem ONLY to end the story, satisfies a moral justice not seen too often in our real world. And might we see a sequel?

"Spirit Deep" is a perfect summer beach read, and not just because it's set in Florida. It grabs a hold of you from the first couple of chapters, and doesn't let go until the very satisfying conclusion. I am not going to go into details too much, as I hate when people give away everything in their reviews.
Suffice it to say, the characters are memorable, and, more importantly, relate-able and real. You want Sam Johnson and his son Bret to push past the tragedy that has shaped their lives. You can feel Sam's terror at the thought of going after the piece of wood that bears Sir Francis Drake's signature, but you can also feel his desire to go and get that artifact. Mr. Waite has done his research, and it shows in the story. The settings, the characters and the story all mesh together almost perfectly. "Spirit Deep" is worth the read. |
