After an extended hiatus, Frank Anthony Polito returns to the world of Bradley Dayton, one of the main characters from his previous novels. This time though, the novel is decidedly more grown up in both style and language, which is more than appropriate seeing as Bradley is now a man in his 20's. I was delighted to see the books grow up with the character.

This book takes on many heavy topics including drug use, drag, the blurred lines of sexuality, and, of course, theater drama. The books zooms merrily along at a good pace for the most part, but several parts felt rushed a bit too much, including the grand finale ending. I was left with a few questions at the end, but i can only hope that that means we will be hearing from Bradley Dayton again soon!

I've enjoyed Mr. Polite's other Detroit works. I enjoyed this one as well, though some of the coincidences were a little too Dickensian. It also seemed to lack the same focus as his other books. It had a lot of interesting ideas and characters, but it probably would have benefitted from a surer sense of direction. Still a very enjoyable look into Mr. Polito's Detroit.

Navigating a new place to attend school can seem overwhelming at the start but Bradley seems to fit in with his new found friends. He takes us on a journey through the theatre world of the recent past in Detroit where he discovers his limitations and capabilities. I liked the familiarity of the settings and people in a way a long lost friend would tell you a story to catch you up to speed on his life. There were several twists in the novel that kept me interested in how things would turn out. I would recommed this novel to anyone interested in a character trying to reach his goals while being distracted in an urban setting.
