5.0 out of 5 stars Pleades meets New Mexico

3.0 out of 5 stars Took a little time
I would have been more prepared for this c.d. if I had first gotten my expectations out of the way. "Wind Walker", the third track, was the only piece that immediately appealed to me with its rich, upbeat nature and keyboard dominant melody. Otherwise, I was extremely disappointed with the Native American themed c.d. at first. It wasn't until after...

A deeply spiritual collaboration between several excellent Native American musicians and the master of the synthesizer, Jonn Serrie. This album artfully blends soulful Native American flute, rain drum, Indian drums, cymbals etc. with the cosmic paintbrush of Serrie's synth sound. Serrie has an almost mystical ability to take simple, slowly sustained synth cords and use them to peacefully open your heart, your third eye and a direct line to the Great Spirit. This music is terminally expansive, if you die while you are listening to it you will never need to come back. This album, especially "Morning Song" and "The Lovers", creates the sort of perfectly legal auditory opium Serrie fans have become addicted to. I have all his albums, play them almost constantly without tiring, and wish there were many more. Why is this great musician not better known?

5.0 out of 5 stars A soul expanding merger of the earth and the sky, January 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Spirit Keepers (Audio CD)
I have all of Jonn's music, and each one tops the next. His musical growth seems to parallel my own personal expansion, and I highly recommend this CD to anyone, who has an interest in both native, as well as space/ambient, sounds. It is transportive, heartfelt, seductive, relaxing, and deeply deeply moving. I listen to it over and over, and never tire of it. It speaks to my soul.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Blend of What Jonn knows best &Native American Music, December 4, 2001
This review is from: Spirit Keepers (Audio CD)
I've been a long time fan of Jonn's space music. This is a great blend of what he knows best and the blending of Native American music. If you meditate, this will take you to the realm of Native American spirituality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Space Music goes Native! A superb blending of two bedrock New Age genres..., July 18, 2002
This review is from: Spirit Keepers (Audio CD)
First off, I'll be blunt. This is not a Native American album. This is a full-force Space Music album, with Native American themes. So if you expect the former, you probably will be disappointed. Me? I was very pleased with the results, and have listened to this album many, many, many times since I first discovered it will doing radio at KSVR-FM in Washington State.

"The Lovers" and "Grandfather Speaks" are especially enjoyable, evoking tremendous imagery and using Serrie's masterful synthesizer strokes combined with Native American spoken word, as well as critically-placed guitar notes and other, sometimes more eclectic instrumental punctuation.

In many ways this album dovetails nicely with Steve Roach & Roger King's forlorn "Dust to Dust", and I've enjoyed myself on lengthy drives through the Western United States playing this album and "Dust to Dust" interleaved. They each evoke the haunting and sometimes tragic spirits of the Old West, and I can seldom listen to one without immediately wanting to hear the other.

I first heard Jonn on a collection of Native American music. I had to buy this CD for the musical content. I was not disappointed by this or his other wonderful CD's.

If you can feel music in your soul and have it lift you, then this is for you. Jonn will give you strength and balance.

Meditate, soul search, or just listen to this fine CD and you will be sold on Jonn's deep routed talents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular, a must have, December 17, 1998
This review is from: Spirit Keepers (Audio CD)
All Serrie fans, this is an incredible journey of space and indian music. Totally incredible. Mr Serrie has done some incredible work especially with this one Spirit Keepers. I cant say enough about this release, I have had this for one and a half months and continually listen to it without it becoming repetitious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes Me Away!, September 26, 1998

Serrie continues his expansion into touchingly lush musical architecture. I have all his releases and this is, by far, the most satisfying. Southwestern and Native American feel with wonderful orchestral backgrounds...several friends will get this issue for Christmas.

"Wind Walker", the third track, was the only piece that immediately appealed to me with its rich, upbeat nature and keyboard dominant melody. Otherwise, I was extremely disappointed with the Native American themed c.d. at first. It wasn't until after several listenings that I was able to begin to appreciate the rest of the c.d. Now I am able to listen to the c.d for what it is without wishing for the "old" Jonn Serrie. Anyway, I'm sure the "old" Jonn Serrie will be back in due time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Typical new age, nothing new or cutting edge here, May 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Spirit Keepers (Audio CD)
I bought this CD on the power of the reviews that I have read here and was surely dissapointed. John is a good musician but, not anywhere close to cutting edge or charting any new territory. The reviews here would much better describe Steve Roach or Robert Rich, An OK CD, but limit your expections
