5.0 out of 5 stars Iyanla, I love you!, August 19, 1997
By A Customer
I am a 21 year old black man, who for so long knew that there was more to life but could not figure out what it was. Months of searching lead me to realize that I had to become more spiritual. I went on to read numerous books on spirituality and self-improvement, but after learning these principles I had no way of applying them. This book showed me how to apply what i had learnt and also taught me a lot more things about life and my relationship with the Creator. This book is a must for every black man or woman who is at the entrance of the tunnel, sees the light at the end, but does not know how to walk through. Iyanla took my hand and I'm sure she'll take yours. After she has lead you to the light, you learn the ultimate lesson: you have been and will always be able to lead others through this tunnel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blessings come in 3s, May 11, 2011
This review is from: The Spirit of a Man: A Vision of Transformation for Black Men and the Women Who Love Them (Paperback)
This is my third time reading Spirit of a Man. Each effort was a suprised blessing. New text became underlined beside old text. As with "in the Meantime" which I feel is your most supreme work, I am in the process of writing a poetic response. My book In a Haiku Meantime can be found on Amazon, both in print and Kindle. However, this review is about In the Spirit of a Man, which has had a profound affect on me. Thank You Iyanla. I first read it after my first divorce. I read it a second time during my second marriage. I am reading it once again, having both experienced and learned new lessons, once again single. The Haiku below is from my upcoming book.

awakened by the

call of my name, I grow from

a child to a man

I feel that i have grown so much in reading Iyanla's work. My poetry is both in honor of her writing and in celebration of it. I recall her once saying that when she met the Dali Lama, his advice to her was to keep i simple. Much that Iyanla presents in Spirit of a man, no matter ow complex, is simple to understand, absorb, and act upon, if e men, ut have the desire, faith, and strength to do so. I love this book.
