5.0 out of 5 stars Wow - this guy gives exact names & places!
I went to see Gordon Smith as part of Hay House's Mystical Connections - it was the first time I'd ever seen a medium in action. I didn't get a reading but saw others validate the dates, names and places that Gordon Smith gave them and was so fascinated with what I saw that I bought this book. 3.0 out of 5 stars Same old story
I'm quite sorry to be writing a merely 3-star review for this book, because Gordon Smith really does come across as a genuinely nice guy who is very well intentioned and wants to give people comfort during times of tragedy.

Unfortunately, none of this makes up for the fact that the book tells pretty much the same story as most of the 'autobiography of a...

I went to see Gordon Smith as part of Hay House's Mystical Connections - it was the first time I'd ever seen a medium in action. I didn't get a reading but saw others validate the dates, names and places that Gordon Smith gave them and was so fascinated with what I saw that I bought this book. Its an autobiographical account of how Gordon became aware of his abilities to connect with the Spirit World, ignored them, then rediscovered them and has used them as a tool to help those suffering with grief. Amazing to think that he can actually talk to the dead and written with a great deal of respect for his work with the spirit world. This book will really open your eyes to the existence of a different realm and reinforce your belief in the integrity of some mediums.

this was one of those books I couldn't put down until I'd finished.
This book details the Journey of a medium's life, it brings allot of information to the subject of mediumship, it also gives some info on spiritualism. a book full of good humor and insight.

5.0 out of 5 stars First book I ever read about a Medium, but I'm hooked..., January 1, 2007
This review is from: Spirit Messenger: The Remarkable Story of a Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (Paperback)
I love Gordon Smith...
He's genuine, smart, real, informative, and often funny.

This book is a real page turner, and even if you don't know a thing about mediumship, you will be charmed.

He's a fine story-teller and a great spriritual teacher, and a chillingly accurate medium. It is my dream to see him for real.

5.0 out of 5 stars FASCINATING, FUNNY, INFORMATIVE!, October 12, 2006
This review is from: Spirit Messenger: The Remarkable Story of a Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (Paperback)
What more could you ask for? I had the privilege of seeing Gordon Smith live. He is genuine and his somewhat autobiographical book is as delightful as he is! This is a good book for anyone who is interested in mediumship and spiritualism.

This book is for anyone interested in mediums from their point of view. It is an interesting and easy to read
book. Gordon Smith is clear, light hearted, and writes in a way that allows the reader to connect with
what he has to say. Because of his easy going style and not talking above his readers, this book
appeals to both newcomers to Spiritualism and mediumship, and those who are familiar with the topic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gloriously insightful and humorous, September 30, 2011

This review is from: Spirit Messenger: The Remarkable Story of a Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (Paperback)
This is the first book I have ever read by Gordon Smith. I finished it just the other day and I must say..... It was a grand read. Many of the humorous portions of the book made me laugh out loud, even when I was alone in bed at night reading it. My two favorite mediums are Gordon Smith and George Anderson. As an amateur magician and someone who is well versed in mentalist tricks, I must admit that what Gordon, and a few other seemingly authentic mediums, do is beyond any type of physical process that I am aware of. Many skeptics, such as Chris French, will also quickly admit to this, at least for Gordon. Simply because we don't understand something, does that make it false in every particular? People who claim to "know" the answers, are usually the ones who are the most incorrect and I consider the massive scheme of debunking that has presented itself as true skepticism throughout recent history as a testament to the immense narcissism of self proclaimed "authorities".

I'm quite sorry to be writing a merely 3-star review for this book, because Gordon Smith really does come across as a genuinely nice guy who is very well intentioned and wants to give people comfort during times of tragedy.

Unfortunately, none of this makes up for the fact that the book tells pretty much the same story as most of the 'autobiography of a medium' books that you have ever seen. In a nutshell, child sees dead people / parents don't (want to) believe it / child grows up and finds their way to a Spiritualist Church / acquires one or more mentors / spends a few years giving small-time demonstrations / recognition, fame and international tour dates follow. Throughout the process a selection of emotionally touching experiences and amusing anecdotes (usually in the form of an eccentric middle aged female Spiritualist mentor) help to pad out the basics.

Spirit Messenger is an easy read, and not unenjoyable for what it is, but there is nothing new here. For some more interesting spiritual insights from the medium's point of view, Colin Fry's 'Life Before Death' is the better buy.
