Feel the 'Spirit' Move Within You ...,
By Patrick K. Rigg-Aiex (Canton, GA USA) - See all my reviews

... whether or not you're of Native American blood. Peter Buffett has done a remarkable job of blending traditional Native American drumming and chant with cutting-edge pop sensibilities. You will feel the rhythms and melodies call to you as no other music does. When you watch the video, and hear the voiceover done by Chief Hawk Pope that translates the native speech, you will believe the message that the CD and video send: we are all one people. As it says in the video: "Speak your spirit. Dance."

Buy it, Buy the video and go see it live as it moves across the country. You can find the tour schedule at Mirabal.com. Robert Mirabal is the featured performer and he is the finest Native American artist there is. Get envolved in the movement, get in touch with the earth. Spirit - mesmerizing amalgamation of styles,
By NDBx "NDBx" (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews

A simply magnificent fusion of Pop/Rock, tribal drums, Native American music forms, Spiritual elements, symphonic and choral music. Each piece is mesmerizing, the styles seamlessly mesh together to startling effect. Each piece develops like a story. Undercurrents of tribal drums and mystic ambience. Firedance begins with a strong undercurrent of tribal drums, bass and cellos which slowly builds a spirtual ambience. Hidden Heritage a hypnotic dance with the sounds of Native American wood flutes and tribal cries as the names of many of the Native American Nations are recited as a soft female voice serenades. Thunderbird is a showstopper of a piece that brings together everything. There is so much more to this album that I could go for paragraphs. Chief Hawk Pope's voice is hypnotic and powerful. Dynamic and slightly theatrical music. There is an accompanying video of the performance of this music along with one of the most original dance presentation and story line, I've seen in some time. Kudos to the combined efforts of Peter Buffet who composed this music and Chief Hawk Pope whose input greatly inspired this effort.

Both the CD and video move my spirit and touch my soul. All of the music is astounding - esp. #9, Spirit Dance actually brings me to passionate tears. If you are interested in hearing a modern interpretation of Native music, this is for you. Genius. Thank you Peter!

When I first saw this PBS special I was struck by the visually stunning and musically powerful work. I marveled at all the artists ability to blend cultures. While the dance and music blended into a modern classic the listener could not forget the historical foundation that helped create this not to be forgotten masterpiece. PBS---let's see it again, and again, and-----
