The original vision for Pinehurst included tennis and bridge and horseback riding--but no golf. There was hardly a reason for Pinehurst to even exist--there was no mountain or ocean or river or city or industry. Nonetheless, the infant resort sprouted wings in the early 1900s as one of the preeminent places to enjoy the game of golf. Its history and that of American golf are one and the same.

His first book was Pinehurst Stories-A Celebration of Great Golf and Good Times, which was released in 1991.
