Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

One of the most profound experiences, pregnancy often flies by before we have had a chance to truly reflect on the miracle of it all. This unique book--an interactive anthology allowing readers to enjoy thiry-nine writers and their views on the topic and then to record their own thoughts and feelings--is a one-of-a-kind keepsake that expectant parents will treasure long after their baby is born. Bestselling and award-winning writers and poets (including Louise Erdrich, Anne Lamont, Bobbie Ann Mason, Rita Dove, Sharon Olds, and Hope Edelman) share the excitement, ambivalence, revelation, apprehension, adventure, and confusion candidly, with passion and often humor. After each selection is a prompt with blank pages following, where readers are invited to record their own insights and impressions. From week one to week forty, the journey to motherhood is filled with hundreds of thoughts and emotions. Here is the perfect opportunity and place to express those personal thoughts--with those of other expectant mothers--and preserve them forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond the "What To" and "How To" of Pregnancy, June 29, 2000
This review is from: The Spirit of Pregnancy : An Interactive Anthology for Your Journey to Motherhood (Paperback)
This collection of funny, insightful and thoughtful essays on the journey to motherhood is a great way to prepare your spirit for transitioning from Independent Woman to MOTHER, a word that deserves to be in all caps. I have the great fortune to have an essay included in this book, but until recently I had not read the entire collection. It really feeds the spirit of the expectant woman, and takes her beyond the important how-to information that other books provide, to provide more thoughtful wisdom on what you've gotten yourself into! Not only is a great investment to add to your collection of books on pregnancy, but I think you'll pass it on to girlfriends to read, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feeds the Expectant Mother's Soul, January 19, 2002

This review is from: The Spirit of Pregnancy : An Interactive Anthology for Your Journey to Motherhood (Paperback)
After becoming very overwhelmed with several "expecting" books, this book was refreshing to my mind and spirit. Finally, there is a book filled with beautiful essays for the pregnant woman. The writings in this book comforted me during pregnancy because they spoke not only of the beauty of pregnancy but also of the beautiful uncertainties of pregnancy. While the medical "how-to" manuals of pregnancy only induced more anxiety, literature sweet literature was there to comfort.
