5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond the "What To" and "How To" of Pregnancy
This collection of funny, insightful and thoughtful essays on the journey to motherhood is a great way to prepare your spirit for transitioning from Independent Woman to MOTHER, a word that deserves to be in all caps. 1.0 out of 5 stars uninspiring and vulgar
I opened this book wanting to be inspired and nurtured during my pregnancy. Instead I found my self offended and bewildered by senseless poems and uninspiring stories. I had to close the book. I hope my review is so poor only because I found the worst it has to offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond the "What To" and "How To" of Pregnancy, June 29, 2000
This review is from: The Spirit of Pregnancy : An Interactive Anthology for Your Journey to Motherhood (Paperback)
This collection of funny, insightful and thoughtful essays on the journey to motherhood is a great way to prepare your spirit for transitioning from Independent Woman to MOTHER, a word that deserves to be in all caps. I have the great fortune to have an essay included in this book, but until recently I had not read the entire collection. It really feeds the spirit of the expectant woman, and takes her beyond the important how-to information that other books provide, to provide more thoughtful wisdom on what you've gotten yourself into! Not only is a great investment to add to your collection of books on pregnancy, but I think you'll pass it on to girlfriends to read, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feeds the Expectant Mother's Soul, January 19, 2002

After becoming very overwhelmed with several "expecting" books, this book was refreshing to my mind and spirit. Finally, there is a book filled with beautiful essays for the pregnant woman. The writings in this book comforted me during pregnancy because they spoke not only of the beauty of pregnancy but also of the beautiful uncertainties of pregnancy. While the medical "how-to" manuals of pregnancy only induced more anxiety, literature sweet literature was there to comfort.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Stories, September 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Spirit of Pregnancy : An Interactive Anthology for Your Journey to Motherhood (Paperback)
This books provides a nice range of different pregnancy stories and poems. I like that after each story/poem, it encourages writing topics. I have heard from many people that, during pregnancy, it is hard to write about the experiences- even for those who usually write. (I found this to be true myself.) Many of the stories seem to capture the rawness and emotion of pregnancy. A very interesting read. I have non-pregnant friends who have enjoyed reading this book also.

I give this book to every pregnant woman in my life. I love its approach. It takes the technical medical feel of pregnancy away and offers the human perspective. The pregnant woman perspective. The artist and the dancer and the poet. Every piece is not going to relate to every woman, and sometimes the journal questions at the end of each piece have a different spin than I would have taken, but this book is a wonderful addition to every pregnant woman's book collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift book for expectant mommies!, November 4, 2003
This review is from: The Spirit of Pregnancy : An Interactive Anthology for Your Journey to Motherhood (Paperback)
Whether you're pregnant yourself, looking for a gift book, or want to relive life as a pregnant woman, this is a wonderful book. Stories, poems and essays range from the contemplation of motherhood to the glory of a round belly. It's the first book I've seen for pregnant women, by pregnant women, about pregnant women and it's no holds barred: honest, inspiring, touching, real. Buy it, read it and pass it along.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for second pregnancy -- or third or fourth..., September 8, 2007
By
This review is from: The Spirit of Pregnancy : An Interactive Anthology for Your Journey to Motherhood (Paperback)
This is the only book I bought during my second pregnancy. It was perfect for me since I didn't really want the "what's developing this week for the baby" books this time around. The selections for this anthology are really fabulous. Many poems and short stories. Many I identified with -- many I did not, but could sympathize with all. Was great to read before climbing into bed at night. Helped me feel connected to all the pregnant women in the world. (I have a list of my favorites in Listmania! -- "Best Birth Books")
