SPIRIT RAIN is great!!!,
By
This review is from: Spirit Rain (Audio CD)
Bill Miller's new recording, SPIRIT RAIN, contains wonderful songs of struggle, strength, hope, forgiveness, healing, and God's love. The vocals, flutes, percussion, and guitar work are awesome. Each musician shows magnificent skill. Bill Miller mastered the genres of Rock, Folk, the Blues, and traditional Native American music. However, the CD is so mellow that Tower Records labeled it "New Age." The package is attractive and user-friendly. The numerous photographs by Shayna Miller compliment her father's paintings. Also, there are no sharp edges on the package. The exterior is cardboard; and the interior contains a lightweight plastic that is less likely to break than that of most CD packages. Kudos go to the designer.

Another great CD of Millers. "Rain Down Your Love" and "You Are The Rain" are favorites. Again he balances words and music into a soothing message. This is so far my favorite of Miller's. He finds those who cannot fit into the "round peg-square hole" of either place. His music and words find the emotions that touch the spiritual middle. Excellent work. Will buy more from this artist.

bill miller's interesting evolution...,
By
This review is from: Spirit Rain (Audio CD)
"spirit rain" is a very good album but not the best from bill miller. for me, "the red road", "reservation road live" and "ghostdance" are better. nevertheless this new cd sounds much nicer and is much more original than "hear our prayer".For the first time we can hear on a bill's album some SPANISH GUITAR and some PIANO and that's the an interesting evolution in a native american cd... spanish guitars on tracks 3 and 13 are awesome and really deserve to be heard by any guitar fans. Like all miller's work, "spirit rain" is very well recorded even though the voice is sometimes recorded with to much reverb and doesn't sound as natural as usually.

The energy he puts into his music,The spirt that is part of his music touched me.so if you ever get the chance to see BIL MILLER ,make time and go see him.SO that.s the reason I'm on here now is to order the other cd,s I dont have yet

Singer and songwriter Bill Miller is a Mohican from northern Wisconsin and an award-winning recording artist in Native American music. Spirit Rain displays and documents his considerably and impressive talents as performer in this superbly produced and recorded selection which blends fourteen songs and instrumentals. A very highly recommended addition to any Native American music collection, Spirit Rain showcases: Approaching Thunder (2:03); You are the Rain (5:32); Rain Down Your Love (4:13); Never Too Far (4:06); Red Sky Red Heart (3:43); Face the Blues (3:58); I Believe (3:34); Love Sustained (3:17); Sun Dog (4:21); Prayers for the Truth (3:12); 1st Dream (2:47); The Promise (3:04); Little Brother (3:29); and Underneath the Blue Sky (3:32).

I've been listening to Bill Miller for years and can't believe how his voice keeps getting smoother and smoother. The songs he has written show his range, and the flute playing. . . incredible!! I think he is the best writer and vocalist and musician working today.

What impresses the most is the unique and quiet musicality of this recording. Bill Miller's compositions, vocalizations and playing are all superb. Excellent backup, sophisticated arrangements, and well-rehearsed, not some recording industry cookie cutter release with the same session players over and over. I was lucky, and have the cover that is now on the Greatest Hits CD.

Lyrics of peace and strength. very nice work. Was recently introduced to Mr. Miller's work when I bought "A Native American Odessy: Inuit to Inca", which is also an excellent disk and a great way to get turned on to many new artists.I look forward to buying more Bill Miller disks. |
