5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you NEED to know about Reiki , Really!, August 30, 2001
This review is from: The Spirit of Reiki: From Tradition to the Present Fundamental Lines of Transmission, Original Writings, Mastery, Symbols, Treatments, Reiki as a ... in Life, and Much More (Shangri-La Series) (Paperback)
After having taught Reiki for seven years, and practiced Reiki for ten years, I have read a lot of Reiki books , many have been disappointingly repeatative or to esoteric. This is one of two books I highly recommend to my students, the other being Diane Steins book, Essential Reiki. This book is well written by seekers of the genuine roots of the Reiki Healing tradition. If you want to understand the mind of Mikao Usui Sensai a little better, I think these writers have revealed the truth. I learned a lot myself and am very satisfied with the techniques taugh here. The author's reveal the origional manuals and techniques taught by the founders of this tradition . Is has been great confirmation of ideas I have intuited in my own practice and has taken me further up the road of my own spiritual path.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for your Reiki library, January 19, 2002

This review is from: The Spirit of Reiki: From Tradition to the Present Fundamental Lines of Transmission, Original Writings, Mastery, Symbols, Treatments, Reiki as a ... in Life, and Much More (Shangri-La Series) (Paperback)
These three authors have created a superb Reiki book, one of the very few available that discusses the factual history of Reiki. The history is important if one is to understand what Reiki is, and what it's not.

They write a good deal about what Reiki is, in fact, including procedures and practices not easily found elsewhere. They thoughtfully include pictures, diagrams, and careful descriptions that assist those who are unfamiliar with these forms of Reiki.

This would have rated five stars, had they sought out a better editor and included an index. These three authors deserve a better treatment of their work: the errors were distracting. An index is almost a must-have for a book like this--I will have to settle for sticky-note bookmarks for important passages or subjects.

Buy it anyway. It's one of the best Reiki resources I've seen, and it should be on the bookshelf of every teacher and practitioner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Overview of Reiki Healing & Traditions, August 18, 2002

This review is from: The Spirit of Reiki: From Tradition to the Present Fundamental Lines of Transmission, Original Writings, Mastery, Symbols, Treatments, Reiki as a ... in Life, and Much More (Shangri-La Series) (Paperback)
This book carefully examines the roots of Reiki healing and the nature of energy healing, from a metaphysical and scientific perspective. It provides many beneficial insights and explanations, covering everything from chakras & subtle energy layers to shamanism, the meridians, and Taoist theories of yin/yang & 5 elements. In covering so much, the authors address some issues that need to be covered in more depth. For example, the chakra color associations listed are misleading, and the elements described are just one system which is not compared to other common metaphysical/alchemical systems. Nevertheless, this book is about the best at putting Reiki in a suitable context and explaining how and why it produces healing and transformation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hands-on healing explained, December 14, 2003
This review is from: The Spirit of Reiki: From Tradition to the Present Fundamental Lines of Transmission, Original Writings, Mastery, Symbols, Treatments, Reiki as a ... in Life, and Much More (Shangri-La Series) (Paperback)
This book is remarkable because it was written by three different Reiki Masters from different lineages and backgrounds. It contains new insights on this gentle form of hands-on healing based on the work of Dr. Mikao Usui.

The wide variety of topics includes an analysis of the way Reiki evolved in the West, the likely way in which it might develop in the future, the search for a scientific explanation of Reiki energy, Reiki as a spiritual path, the practice of Reiki in Japan and the latest assessment of Usui's original healing modality.

In addition there are discussions of the Reiki symbols, definitions of the healing method and a look at the relationship between student and teacher. The history of the discipline is covered in chapters on Dr. Usui, Chujiro Hayashi, Hawayo Takata and other personalities, along with some of their personal writings.

The book includes 150 photographs and black and white illustrations. It is a great work that looks at Reiki from all angles. I highly recommend it together with Paula Horan's book The Ultimate Reiki Touch.

This review is from: The Spirit of Reiki: From Tradition to the Present Fundamental Lines of Transmission, Original Writings, Mastery, Symbols, Treatments, Reiki as a ... in Life, and Much More (Shangri-La Series) (Paperback)
This book really opens my eyes and excites me, not only about practicing Reiki, but learning as much as I can about it. The authors really took the time and energy to investigate the tales we have all heard for so long. I appreciate their respect and love for the practice and those who have brought it too us, but also drive to give us the most correct information possible. This book is a must have for anyone interested in healing.

5.0 out of 5 stars best overview of reiki as it is practiced today, August 12, 2008

This review is from: The Spirit of Reiki: From Tradition to the Present Fundamental Lines of Transmission, Original Writings, Mastery, Symbols, Treatments, Reiki as a ... in Life, and Much More (Shangri-La Series) (Paperback)
Receiving my Reiki I attunement really opened me up to the world of energy healing. Before that, I understood energy that moved through my own body in meditation and yoga, but I never thought it was possible that I might be able to affect or feel for the energy of another.

As excited as I was after receiving that first attunement, I still didn't quite "get" reiki (but that has everything to do with my left-brain myopia :). That is why I am so glad I ran across "The Spirit of Reiki." In clear explanations by three of the foremost Western teachers of Reiki, I learned about the real history of traditional Reiki, the nature of Reiki energy, in addition to a wealth of useful techniques from Japanese Reiki. The authors' clarity has actually helped me in letting go of concerns about what reiki is, where it comes from and how it works, which means I can channel it better, sense it better than I could before. My gratitude to these teachers for sharing their many years of experience working with this mysterious force.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Spirit of Reiki, September 18, 2005
This review is from: The Spirit of Reiki: From Tradition to the Present Fundamental Lines of Transmission, Original Writings, Mastery, Symbols, Treatments, Reiki as a ... in Life, and Much More (Shangri-La Series) (Paperback)
A great book for anyone who wants to learn more about Reiki. The book covers the way Reiki interacts with Chakras, meridians and other spiritual beliefs and practices. Detail on the history of Reiki is really interesting and dispels a few myths. The book explains the many levels Reiki works on and how Reiki works. Recommended for the beginner and experienced channel who want to learn more about Reiki.

This review is from: The Spirit of Reiki: From Tradition to the Present Fundamental Lines of Transmission, Original Writings, Mastery, Symbols, Treatments, Reiki as a ... in Life, and Much More (Shangri-La Series) (Paperback)
Excellent source of information on reiki and reiki techniques. Doesn't just go over the origins and symbols, but creatively includes many treatments previously not mentioned in other manuals on the subject.

I was thrilled with all of the info that is in this book. Three different views on common subjects that were made very clear and inspiring. I suggest that any level two healers who are going on, no matter which direction, acquire this book for a reference. I constantly go back for a review on indiviual items.
