Product Description

From Children's Software Revue® -- "Subscribe Now!"

Based on the Dreamworks animated film, this game stars a mustang stallion named Spirit who must find and rescue his herd which has scattered across the land. Children guide Spirit as he walks, runs and jumps his way through the various scenes, stopping to help animals in need and collect items like food and water. These items he takes back and forth to Rain, his girlfriend, who is recovering slowly from an arduous mishap. The overall goals are to nurse Rain back to health and return all the other horses to the Homeland. Lots of small tasks must be accomplished along the way, like rebuilding a windmill and finding a misplaced mirror. The game is very compelling and graphics and sound effects are good. Gameplay does get frustrating at times and we had to turn to the jewel case insert for help. For instance, it's a little tricky to get Spirit moving quickly, and we had trouble figuring out how to have him jump the rivers. Those issues aside, young horse enthusiasts are going to love this program, and will play it for hours on end.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good game, August 27, 2003
This review is from: Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (CD-ROM)
My 7 year old daughter loves the movie and was thrilled to see the game in the store. Setup of the game was easy and although she was new to adventure games of this type (pick up items, complete tasks, solve puzzles) she picked up on it very quickly. Graphics and sound are very well done, although the music can get annoying but it can be shut off. As mentioned before, Spirit needs to take care of Rain and in a short time, my daughter who felt sorry for Rain at the beginning was now saying "Oh geez, Rain needs more water, Rain needs more food...", but fortunately, this only lasts for the first quarter of the game. Once Rain is healed and feeling better she doesn't require any more help for the rest of the game. The goal of the game is to rescue fellow horses in the herd and the game can be completed in about 6-8 hours of play time. Sadly, there is nothing more to the game, no other adventures or variations if the game is replayed. Overall the game is well designed and fun to play, but could use a little more.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Girls Love It, April 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (CD-ROM)
My 6 and 4 yr old girls love this game and beg to play it every day. They got fed up asking me to teach them how to play it and spent the several hours required to learn it themselves. I admire their determination--I gave up after about 10 minutes. The documentation is poor and the play is not obvious. I think the game appeals to them for several reasons. 1) they love horses and the Spirit movie. 2) the game is not `scary' (no monsters). 3) there is a lot of freedom to explore. 4) there is an emphasis on helping others. I had no installation issues on Windows XP.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Cool, December 22, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (CD-ROM)
Spirit and his herd were captured by rustlers! Over time, Spirit's herd had been sold to other people and all that was left were two horses. Spirit and an old gray horse. Catch the rabbit and he'll give you a carrot, win a race with the eagle and earn a feather, do good deeds and save your herd!
If this game were a bit longer or more difficult, it would have been much better. I beat it in less than 1 hour! Also, as soon as you beat it, there is nothing to do except run around the place and talk to your herd.
