5.0 out of 5 stars An Enjoyable Read
I couldn't put this book down. It was very enjoyable, gracefully written and the writing style was eloquent and personable. It gave me an intimate connection with the earth. I learned a lot from this book and I felt like I was on the journey myself. The author is delightful!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Shaman For Our Time, July 24, 2007
By
P. J. Goguen (Sedona, AZ, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Spirit of the Stones (Paperback)
A shaman for our time, Amalia is the real deal. In the tradition of Dan Millman's "Way of the Peaceful Warrior", Amalia digs down deep for the courage to live the experiences leading to shamanic wisdom. In her true story of a woman's unique personal journey of self discovery, Amalia sacrifices all to answer a call from Mother Earth. Giving up her home, her husband and her successful naturopathic career in Australia, she travels to many unusual locations on the planet where Earth's energy is uniquely manifested in massive stone formations. There, Amalia uncovers her special power to retrieve ancient knowledge held in the stones over the millennia. Amalia's story is fascinating and grounding. As Earth's consciousness ascends during these next few critical years, Amalia will probably be in the middle of the fray leading many of us in her shamanic dance pounding out much needed healing messages from Mother Earth. I could not put this book down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spirit of the Stones review, August 29, 2008
This review is from: Spirit of the Stones (Paperback)
This book wonderfully brings alive a beautiful story and individual. I felt myself enthralled by the story of Amalia's journey, and in the experience I felt my own relationship to the earth deepen. A lively account of one person's journey into deep connection with herself and the earth, I could not help but feel my own connections evolving and deepening as well. The narrative is engaging, descriptive and flowing in substance and style. Amalia writing plays with the subtle balance of fun and enjoyable reading with a thoughtful and contemplative content. It was a true pleasure to read.

Amalia is truly genuine. While in Sedona I had a shamanic session with
her that was empowering. Her connection with the earth is undeniable.
Since then, I have read her book. She sincerely shares her spiritual journey with the reader. I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book, especially if you have a strong connection to Mother Earth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ancient Knowledge Revisited, August 6, 2008

Amalia was the guest speaker at a meeting I attended and, loving to commune with nature and Mother Earth myself, found her very interesting. I purchased a copy of her "Spirit of the Stones". The book was fascinating. I could put it down only momentarily for the essentials and also to pause to reflect and contemplate the messages Amalia received. Her story is captivating and told with honesty, sincerity and openness. "Spirit of the Stones" breaks new ground and provides thought provoking ideas and messages. A 'must read'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spirit of the Stones, June 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Spirit of the Stones (Paperback)
Amilia Camateros is not only a genuine modern-day shamaness - she is an adventurer who boldly steps into the unknown in her quest for spiritual wisdom. From a background as the child of Greek immigrants, her journey - simmered in the cauldron of the primitive Australian Outback - takes her from sheltered city life in Melbourne to the lush beaches and gardens of Hawai'i to steamy Mayan jungles to the harsh desert scapes of the American Southwest. In these locations, Amalia submerges her personality to 'speak' with 'the spirit of the stones', retrieving and gathering the data encoded in the ancient bones of Mother Earth, for the benefit of a humanity thirsty for sacred knowledge as we hurtle towards convergence in 2012 and beyond.

2.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinarily lacking in discernment, May 16, 2011
This review is from: Spirit of the Stones (Paperback)
Saying (p. 173) that basically *everything* she encounters is an omen, Ms. Camateros interprets stings from wasps (when she admittedly walked right up and poked their hive! p.165) as "challenges in the still foreign places of my emotional body". Wild dogs who live in the ruins and feed on dropped scraps from tourists are "representative of our need to protect the energies and information within us." p. 153. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

I couldn't finish this volume of completely overblown twaddle. I thought about re-selling it, but at the going used rate of $.01, it seems like too much trouble. And, frankly it might be wise to keep it as a guide of how not write a book. Yes, Ms. Camateros most likely had a powerful vision during this time, of that I am convinced; her depth of feeling drips off every page. Skimming the rest of the book, it seems as if she took away some deep wisdom. Which she has not been able to transmit at all. The exercises and concrete wisdom between pages 323-337 are the entire meat of the book; the rest is personal chaff that doesn't enlighten me in any way. Even the pith of those slim 14 pages is blurry and not well detailed. If you're even a moderately experienced shamanic practitioner, it's all obvious wisdom.

Based on the comments on her web site from people who have taken her workshops, I have no doubts that Ms. Camateros is genuine and transmits an authentic and powerful teaching in her workshops. Not here, though. If you're looking for a travelogue of an extended ecstatic experience, this is one that might suit you. For me, they grow no corn.

4.0 out of 5 stars A compelling and courageous tale, April 15, 2011
By
This review is from: Spirit of the Stones (Paperback)
I greatly enjoyed this book while I was personally visiting Sedona, Arizona which is the setting for much of the book. Amalia writes beautifully and poignantly, straight from her heart. It is easy to relate to her (as the heroine in her own story) as she heeds the call from Spirit....and treads that so-often difficult path that all seekers tread when they start to live from the heart.

I also had the privilege of working one-on-one with Amalia and can happily report that she is the 'real deal'.

Highly recommended on both fronts!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful journey of self discovery..., January 28, 2011
This review is from: Spirit of the Stones (Paperback)
While planning a trip to Sedona this past spring, I came across Amalia's book, Spirit of the Stones, saw the rave reviews and purchased the book. I found her story to be inspiring and powerful, so much that my copy is highlighted and dog-eared. Amalia's journey of self discovery really resonated with where I was at the time and where I wanted to go. I often would stay up longer than I had intended at night gripped by her words. I learned so much while reading Spirit of the Stones that I decided I needed to work with her in person. This past fall, I was fortunate enough to do some deep healing work with Amalia at her home and "on the land" in Sedona as she so sweetly puts it in her Australian accent. She is an amazingly gifted writer and healer. I would encourage you to get her book and, if you are lucky enough, work with her in person in the beautiful, magical land of the Red Rocks. You will not regret it!!
