Book Description

One of the most venerated Sufi poets and saints, Hazrat Sultan Bahu’s life has been as veiled as the divine. Through countless stories, the loveable and fully illumined spiritual master’s life has been told mostly through oral tradition. Using the deep emotions of his teachings, this inspiring new book uses the depth of Sultan Bahu to ignite the love of God in readers’ hearts while uplifting them to greater heights. The Spirit of a Sultan is a mystical new novel based on the true life accounts of Sufi reverend, poet, and saint, Sultan Bahu. A historical biography reminiscent of Autobiography of a Yogi, the novel uses a slight fictional component to create a spiritual atmosphere throughout the story. A spellbinding tale of enlightenment, this wonderful book follows Sultan Bahu’s life history and spiritual journey while showing us all how to connect with God in our hearts and minds. Written in an extraordinarily unique and intriguing style, The Spirit of a Sultan portrays the true account of a saint who shares a great many parallels with Guatama Buddha. Following a man who gave away his wealth, land, and legacy in order to pursue an austere existence in search of the truth while teaching others the realization of God and special meditation techniques, the novel inspires readers everywhere to re-examine their own lives and their relationships with God. Teaching readers around the world the importance of self-realization through God and connecting to him through one’s own heart through Sufi meditation, The Spirit of a Sultan highlights the life-changing teachings of a remarkable man. An uplifting and mystical experience, this fantastic book possesses the rare ability to change readers’ lives for the better. Following Sultan Bahu’s purpose in this world to ignite an ardent love for God in men’s hearts, this story possesses a lasting appeal that will stay with readers long after they’ve closed the book. The beginning of a new age, The Spirit of a Sultan will inspire countless readers to continue to strive for spiritual joy, love, and peace.

I recieved this book as an ARC for review purposes. All thought are my own and positive review not required.

Before I read this book I had limited knowledge of the Muslim religion. I learned about it in school and have a few friends who are Muslim but that is about the extent of my knowledge. Reading this book gave me a unique perspective and insight into the life of poet and Saint,Sultan Bahu. The descriptions of his travels were breath taking and the depth that he reached people with his teachings was astonishing. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for understanding and knowledge of this complex culture. Some of your misconceptions maybe corrected.

4.0 out of 5 stars Educational And Inspiring May 20, 2014
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I confess, my knowledge of Middle Eastern history and culture was quite limited before reading this book. After reading, "Spirit of the Sultan", I feel at least a little more enlightened. A fictional tale based in fact, it tells the story of Sultan Bahu, his life and his spiritual teachings. It begins with a richly detailed history of the area and its rulers. I was a little overwhelmed with all of the battles and royal lineage at the beginning of the book, though I admit I learned a lot.

About a third of the way in to the book, the real hero of the story is born. From there on, it follows him on his many journeys as he grows into a great spiritual leader. The story definitely focuses on the spiritual, and is quite inspiring. There are several Sufi poems/meditations included, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

If you have an interest in learning about Middle Eastern history and culture, or about the religious teachings of Sultan Bahu and the saints, I recommend this book. I don't believe you will be disappointed. The author definitely knows his stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring October 28, 2013

The Spirit of a Sultan is a beautifully written book--that both educates and inspires. I learned a great deal about the history of the region, Islam and the Muslim and Hindu cultures as the author patiently, almost soothingly, laid out each scene in the story of the life, times and legacy of Hazrat Sultan Bahu. This book inspires self reflection--and encourages readers to explore their own faith and a deeper relationship with God. I think this is the best, spiritual themed book that I have read this year. The life of Hazrat Sultan Bahu was both enlightening and educational. I feel that anyone desiring a stronger relationship with God will find beauty within the pages of this book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for use in a blog review--but, all opinions are my own.

This book was unlike any I have ever read and it was amazing. While I do love history and religion I can assure you this is far from boring. The Spirit of the Sultan is one of those books that will stick with you for a long time. It was a beautiful story about Sultan Bahu's quest to enlightenment and his travels along the way. The book shows readers how to connect to their spiritual side and lead a more fulfilling life.

I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for something different or someone looking to connect to a book on a spiritual level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Reading October 21, 2013
When I first did the promo for this book I thought that I would be reading something not unlike a history textbook. I was worried it would be boring or that it would be too religious. The Spirit of a Sultan is about the true account of a saint, Sultan Bahu, whose journey is simply awe-inspiring. It was amazing to read so much of another culture especially written by someone who writes it so beautifully like Ahmad Javid (Sarwari Qaderi). Before reading I only knew a little bit about the Muslim religion and even less about Sufism. I took a class in college which based highly on great influencers of modern religion and I did my 25 page thesis paper on Guatama Buddha. Of course I have forgotten almost all of it but a lot of the research I did came back to me reading this and I could see how Sultan Bahu was going down the path of true enlightenment like Buddha. This book was not the dry history I thought but rather a beautiful storybook encounter of a man’s quest. I could see the beauty in his faith. This book will really get you to sit back and think of where you are in your own religion and life and wonder how you can further yourself. This book truly shows readers how to connect with this spiritual side and extend their own journeys towards a fulfilling life. I loved reading through Sultan Bahu’s life and all the steps he took along the way. He gave all materials possessions up to lead a life of learning and teaching and I just cant imagine what that must have been like. The descriptions of all the holy shrines were amazing. I could almost see them in my mind and feel like I was there. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a deeper spiritual connection or anyone wanting to read about a great man who found a path a to God and worked his way there selflessly. I received an ebook version of this book to facilitate my review. As always, all opinions are my own.
