Editorial Reviews

Review

Carolyn has given us a superb and healing delight. There is much to be learned from this compassionate guide to bereavement. This reviewer found SPIRIT-WALKING to be dynamic, warm and visionary. Carolyn's poetry found a place in my heart. If your interest is to learn how to overcome fears about death and dying, then SPIRIT-WALKING is a must read! -- Metaphysical Reviews, January, 1997

In a gentle mix of narration and poetry, the author addresses life's ultimate mystery in a sensitive, thought-provoking, believable, and very reassuring way. She does this through conversations with the newly dead, or as she terms it, 'spirit-walking.' Spirits who have just crossed over speak candidly to her about the world they have found and how they felt about dying, and also about their former lives in the world they left. As Stearns explains, "No one was more surprised than I when I found myself communicating with spirits, people who no longer live in body but very clearly are continuing to live in spirit. Sometimes I see spirits and sometimes I just feel them. Always I listen." The voices she hears are varied - elderly or sick, sweet-natured or difficult, suicides, even a dog or two. They manage to communicate comfort and courage while avoiding the sentimental. Stearns' approach to this universal human concern cuts across cultural and religious boundaries. Readers will find the book useful for coming to terms either with their own death or that of another. I found the book so powerful that I had to put it down halfway through to catch my breath, and think hard about what I was reading. -- Crone Chronicles, October, 1997

Perhaps (the book) should be SPIRIT-TALKING, as humans and animals found ways to get their messages through to Carolyn. The results are this little book with big ideas, full of vignettes related to the recently deceased. Each story will touch a chord within a reader (Butch brought tears to my eyes and I don't even have a dog), as the details are about life and death and no matter which side you are on, there is no end--just the next place. -- Baltimore Resources, Winter 1997

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't let this precious little book pass you by!, March 26, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Spirit-Walking (Paperback)
I read this book some time ago, and I'm still asking myself how such a seemingly small, simple book can have such a deep and enduring impact on me. Perhaps it's the beauty and power of the messages, set in wonderful poetry, from those who have crossed over before us--those who "know". In this book, Carolyn Stearns and her "associates" lay before us an opportunity to live a life of greater freedom and joy, and to die a death with fewer fears and regrets. I keep several copies on hand, for this book is the best gift I can give to those who are struggling with the issues of life and death. Don't let this precious little book pass you by!

A compassionate guide to bereavement. Stories & poems relating to recently deceased loved ones, whether people or pets, joyfully teaching us how to overcome our fears about death & dying.

Carolyn Stearns' Spirit-Walking is a tender, exciting & healing little volume. Utterly unpretentious, utterly refreshing & utterly authentic. Poems from the Other Side of the Veil, in plain song, clear & bright, full of joy, excitement & eagerness.

I shall always remember Spirit-Walking; I shall always look now at life with a sense of future, a sense of the death of this bag of bones as simply being the sloughing off of a layer of skin as the Spirit lives on to laugh & dance again. Do check out my eInterview with this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating insights from those on the other side of death., September 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Spirit-Walking (Paperback)
Carolyn Stearns, in graceful poetic form, shares messages that have come to her all-unbidden from people -- and two dogs -- recently dead. These are voices of hope and encouragement for those for whom death seems a monstrous spectre or a dark void. It is neither, the voices say -- it is a transition to liberation. One need not accept everything that Carolyn has recorded to appreciate the gifts her interlocutors offer.
