NDNs - Check It Out!,

This review is from: Spirit of the Wheel Meditation Deck with Poster and Booklet (Cards)
As a Native person, I am cautious in introducing New Age/Metaphysical subjects to my NDN friends and family (FYI to the non-Natives reading this: many, many Native people are scornful of these things; they view the often clumsy incorporation of Native teachings into worldwide metaphysics as the frequent theft of a culture the thieves can never truly comprehend). When I started reading oracle cards a few years ago, I loved them so much and began seeking a way to share my newfound knowledge with those closest to me. This deck was the answer.
It was created by a woman who lived with a (Cree?) tribe out west, and the symbols are based on that tribe's clans and beliefs (I like that it didn't take a "one-size-fits-all-Indians" approach). As you read them, you will find yourself interpreting to your own tribe's teachings and recognizing the symbology in that context. Even so, take a look at the book and just see if there's a little more information to be gleaned from each card. The cards are remarkably easy to read, with each one bearing three key words on the front. You almost don't need the book, but you might want to refer to it anyway until you get to know them better. The medicine wheel chart that comes with the deck is pretty cheesy and you probably won't use it. I usually do a simple three card spread, but there are some very intriguing suggestions in the book. I particularly liked the calumet/pipe layout and got some good readings from it right off the bat. The first time I read for my mother and my aunt, both elders, I was amazed to learn my great-grandfather was known to read an ordinary deck of playing cards. He helped a lot of people in his village and it made me so proud to hear that. I spread a nice cloth on the table, smudged the cards and ourselves, and read for them. They loved it! If you are looking for a deck that respects the Red Road and won't offend your ancestors, this is probably the one for you.

The Spirit of the Wheel Deck is amazing! It is one of the best oracle finds for me, this year. I now own 4 copies, as I want to make sure I have this for life! The artwork is gorgeous, soft colours, bold statements, gentle teachings of life. This can be used in a myriad of ways, be it as a meditation deck, pathworking or as an oracle, it will help guide you into a world of Native American teachings, animal totems, spiritual growth and how the Creator of life weaves all these together to form the medicine wheel. Higly recommended to anyone interested in the above forms of divination or meditation as well as Native American spirituality.

I have been using an oracle for years to tap into spirit or higher self. The I-ching, first and foremost, but native american spirituality also. This deck has awesome artwork and three word reminders on each card concerning the meaning described in the little book that comes in the deck. My recommendation is to lay the cards out on the floor in a medicine wheel (chart Included) so you can see how each card correlates and is placed in the Medicine wheel. I also burned sage and walked in a circle around the wheel blessing it and giving it my own personal power. I am picky about the tools I use for ritual, prayer and guidance. These cards speak to me, about the circle of life and walking it. These are not tarot cards..they are about the medicine wheel. I use these and another excellent deck called. The Lakota sweat lodge cards. Inspired by medicine man Archie Fire lame deer.

I have looked at these cards a few times over the last year always thinking, "I really need to try those."
When they arrived the other day, not only were they beautifully designed as described, they are absolutely gorgeous. Each card is well thought out and portrays such emotion and has such beautiful messages. The first time I sat down with them I tried a layout shown in the small guide book called "The Blossoming Flower" and was simply amazed. It was not only uplifting but it gave gentle direction in the right way. In my opinion they would be great for everyone from experienced readers to novice beginners. They are easy to follow, the book is well written, and the cards seem extremely well made. And that's not even including the beautiful little poster that is a map of the Native medicine wheel. Being Native American myself I connected easily with these cards, but I think anyone no matter your family linage would simply adore the beauty of these cards. I truly think I have found a new favorite deck and I can promise I will be using them often. <3

Beautiful artwork, thoughtful guidance,
This review is from: Spirit of the Wheel Meditation Deck with Poster and Booklet (Cards)
Out of the 3 oracle decks I use this is my favorite. The messages one can recieve from this deck are gentle reminders to guide the querent, not the "harsh realities" that some oracle decks have a tendency to give. I have been amazed at the cards' accuracy in regards to the question in mind...None of the cards have a daily horoscope feel--they are specific in the teaching offered on each one. The artwork is beautiful and thought-provoking. I have never used the included poster of a medicine wheel. The booklet included is informative, and my favorite part is the little prayers included at the end of each card description. I agree with others in that this deck could be used without the book. The cards are made of high-quality glossy cardstock with rich-colored ink. The booklet has a lower quality white paper, not durable. A person new to oracle cards would benefit from the guiding nature of the information of these cards. These are not tarot or fortune-telling cards.

Thid beautiful deck breaks with the old European patriarchal tarot configuration and introduces the user to the wisdom of the medicine wheel. It can be a useful tool for becoming familiar with Native American teachings, for learning the medicine wheel, and also can be used for divination purposes. The art is truly gorgeous.

I'm a huge Jodi Bergsma fan, so I was immediately attracted to this meditation tool for that reason. I expected a more substantial book instead of the flimsy and tiny paper pamphlet thing that doesn't even have a normal cardstock cover. I'm further disappointed that the card images themselves are not reproduced in the pamphlet, as one would expect and is common in other meditation decks of similar sort.
Nonetheless, for all these objections, the cards themselves live up to Jodi's usual exceptional quality in beauty, spiritual connection, and meaningfulness, and I can recommend this product to those who won't be annoyed by the disappointments noted above.

I use this deck all the time. I never use the booklet that came inside. You won't need it unless you don't understand the deck. The images are inspiring and I needed no help from a book to see the messages held within the card. If you truly understand the native american way or want to this deck is for you. Mitakuye Oyasin~

I was so drawn to this deck. The images speak volumes and really make you very introspective. This is my very favorite deck, however I was very disappointed with the paper book included with it. It surely deserves more. Even though you don't need the book, it is always good for reference or more for those who need it.I would also have liked more informative on the wheel.Definetely a must have.
