5.0 out of 5 stars The best book I've ever read!
This book was given to me as a gift from a dear friend, and I could never thank her enough for being the one to introduce me to Kardec's work. Growing up with many questions and being afraid of death, his book made sense and gave me all the answers that I was looking for. As a practioner of his doctrine, I truly believe that we're here temporarily to learn and move on...

1.0 out of 5 stars Disapointed
This book says a lot about punishment "there" and as a Christian I don't think GOD is about punishment but LOVE and forgiveness, when we die we go to God because all our mistakes or sins we pay them here, on earth sooner or later is a fact, I believe in Karma, but here, not "there"
I felt really depressed when I read this book and make no sense with what others...

This book was given to me as a gift from a dear friend, and I could never thank her enough for being the one to introduce me to Kardec's work. Growing up with many questions and being afraid of death, his book made sense and gave me all the answers that I was looking for. As a practioner of his doctrine, I truly believe that we're here temporarily to learn and move on to other levels. His teachings about love, respect, compassion and unity shows us that the time has come for the human race to stop with the violence and help one another before it's too late. This book, and many others written by him, have showed me that there's a true meaning for everything on this world, and that we all have free will to change our lives and achieve self-actualization without hurting anyone around us. It is a must read to anyone who's doing soul searching or are seeking answers to their questions. kreva@aol.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Right book, wrong version, October 12, 2007

Amazon, are you listening? I originally read this book in French and really loved it. It is a wonderful book for those searching for the meaning of life, spiritual truth etc...and is a very serious, credible work by someone whose main line of work was scientific study and medicine, Allan Kardec.

I was so thrilled that I ordered copies in English for friends and was disappointed to find out that this copy is the original English translation dating from the late 1800s!! The book is still worth a read, but why suffer needlessly? The language is difficult, and the typeset is even worse. Great news: a new, modern American English version does exist, and frankly, it is a huge mystery to me as to why it is not being sold here. FYI: I bought my modern copies fon the Allan Kardec Education Society's website...

5.0 out of 5 stars Guidelines for evolution and for life, November 24, 2005
When I read this book for the 1st. time, I didn't stop reading, alll week. After that, I started studying it, because, when I discover that its contain, THE PRINCIPLES OF SPIRITIST DOCTRINE on The Immortality of the soul; the nature of spirits and their relations with men; the moral law; the present life, the future life, and the destiny of the human race, I took it as my guidelines for life. Now I am a Spiritist and we run a Spiritist Group in Brighton - UK, to help people to understand their sufferings and happiness. So This book has answer for all scientific, philosophical and religious questions. Amazing. God bless all -[...]

5.0 out of 5 stars Spirits book, September 1, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
spirits' book is a magnificent book because its a serious dialogue about the universe and its components. spiritism is not just a mystical approach to life. its scientific, dialogic, and intellectual approaches to the spirit world have broken boundaries that many westerners have failed to do. spirits' book is not a book that allows for dogma to formulate but more so a healthy dialogue about spiritist concepts, a dialogue that i believe is encouraged to continue as what Kardec had hoped for. spiritism is an awesome idea and way of being. and i would encourage people to read it. you may not agree with everything the book says. but the way to learn is to question and disagree.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening!, November 23, 2005
This book is sure to answer all the question you've ever thought of and haven't thought of!

Compiled over 150 years ago by Kardec, The Spirits Book is a must have for anyone interested in SERIOUSLY studying the spiritual truths and seeking answers that console and strenghten our faith.

Instead of denying Science (like most religions do nowadays, out of fear), Kardec validates it as a precious tool for our spiritual growth!

Indispensable reading material.

5.0 out of 5 stars A (must have) book for Spiritual Intelligence!, July 29, 2004
I am so pleased to see the precious writings of Allan Kardec in print and available in book stores through out the United States.

Raised in a Catholic environment in Brooklyn, New York, I always felt there were too many taboos, restrictions and questions unanswered pertaining to our incarnate and discarnate existance. Religion seemed so blind and incomplete!

At the early age of 15, I began researching various Christian denominations in search of the truth. Still unsatisfied, I sought knowledge through metaphysical studies, astrology and the occult.

By the age of 25 I gave up seeking the answers to all of my questions and gave myself the title of, Christian. I knew there was so much more to understand, but, I could not make the connection between christianity, science and metaphysics.

Ten years later, with the help of my ewb browser, I discovered Christian Spiritism.

Not only were all of my questions answered, but the powerful knowledge I received changed my life forever.

The Spirit's Book, in addition to, The Gospel According to Spiritist Doctrine, are only two of a multitude of books available to you.

It is a new millenium and time for our spiritual awakening. The Spiritist Movement is spreading through out the US, but at a very slow pace. Volunteers are alway welcome!

Tell them Janice sent you:-) Peace and Love to you All

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book I've ever read, May 31, 1999
By A Customer
Along with "The Boy Who Saw True", a book that I read straight through and then stayed right where I was to read straight through again (though in this case, I might not make it, I'm tired after staying up all night). This book forced me to make a conscious, ethical examination of my life. What could possibly be a more satisfactory experience than to know that my heart and mind were equally and actively engaged by the wonderful material presented in this book. I don't buy everything it states, but am comfortable that the greater majority of it is wholesome, laudable, sensible, consistent, intelligent, and worthwhile. This book has the potential to be life altering in only the best of ways.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonder no more, here are your answers!, October 12, 1997
By A Customer
Consider all the tough questions that you asked your parents, a pastor, or a priest all your life. Consider that sometime, probably around your twenties you gave up on getting answers that made sense, answers that would "feel right". Like everyone else Allan Kardec had questions, many questions, and he had the opportunity to ask those who would certainly know. He then went about collecting and researching these answer like the scientist that he was, to be certain that he would not be fooled. The result was truly astounding. This book changed my life, removed unfounded fears, made sense! It explains life, our planet, our families, our responsibilities and our spiritual debts. I come back to it often, it is undoubtedly a once in a lifetime experience.
