5.0 out of 5 stars The best book on the subject!
Troy Taylor's "Spirits of the Civil War" is the best book on this subject, hands down! He not only discusses the paranormal activities surrounding these stories, he has done extensive background research on the subjects, and gives you exact and unpolluted history of the events as well! I give the book two thumbs up!

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT WORTH EVEN ONE STAR!
This book is a complete waste of time for many reasons: 1) Bad research loaded with misinformation 2) Difficult reading to the many type and editorial errors 3) No authentic documentation of actual paranormal activities... need I go on?

Troy Taylor has written an absolute masterpiece that covers, not only the folklore of the Civil War but also a interesting historical analysis of the subject. It is well written and well researched.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book on the hauntings and folklore of the Civil War, November 1, 2000

This review is from: Spirits of the Civil War (Paperback)
I enjoyed this book. It contains many legends of the haunted battlefields of America's greatest conflict. Although, some of the stories sound mostly like folklore instead of documented hauntings, it does have some excellent documentation of the authors research on some of them. The only complaint I have is that the book did not seem to be too carefully edited, but it is a very enjoyable book.

1.0 out of 5 stars I wish I could give it 0 stars!, February 7, 2002
This review is from: Spirits of the Civil War (Paperback)
This is one of the worst books I have ever read. The editor of this book must have found it as hard to read as I did for they did a very poor job. That can not be blamed on Taylor but I am afraid that the rest of this mess is his fault.

Taylor makes an attempt to write about both history and ghosts and in that attempt he falls short on both counts. His history is poorly researched and in some cases has no basis in fact. He spends so much time on the history of the haunted location that the ghosts themsleves get very little attention. To finish off any hope this work might have had Taylor writes in the same dry style of the people who brought us the high school history books that have led so many people to hate history.

Anyone who buys this book to read about history will be so thrown off by the historical errors that they will be able to give the ghost stories little credit. Anyone who buys this book for the ghost stories will just fall quickly to sleep.
