About the Author

John Ackerman serves half-time as pastor of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. In his work as spiritual director he sees pastors, therapists, and lay people for one-on-one direction. He also serves as consultant to clergy groups, and he teaches a D.Min. course on spirituality and programs on the Myers-Briggs and Spirituality.

I wrote the book in l994 to describe the remarkable transformation of a small parish, how indidivuals, leadership groups, and the whole congregation were increasingly willing to share their experience of God, to listen to God individually and as a group. I integreated this with classic Christian spirituality, contemporary psychological developmental and personality theory, nouanced for male and female differences.
