Have you been longing to learn more about spiritual disciplines but haven't known where to start? Through brief daily readings and simple ideas on spiritual practices, this book introduces the core disciplines of the Christian faith. Rather than being another burden to an already full schedule, these devotions provide an opportunity to develop holy habits that will lead you into the joyful, rich life God has created us for. Each month focuses on one of the twelve core disciplines of the Christian life. This will allow you to soak in the rich principles behind each practice in a brief daily format. Within each discipline, there are readings for five days a week (built-in grace!). Each session contains a Bible verse and a short teaching on the discipline. With the introduction to each discipline, there is an array of practical application ideas that you can incorporate into your week. By devoting just ten minutes a day to reading and practice, you can set yourself on a journey of lifetime riches. Make this the year you discover the disciplines. Also includes ideas for weekly family activities.
I am an author, instructor in the Spring Arbor University's Master of Spiritual Formation program, retreat speaker, musician, mother and pastor's wife. My husband is an Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Boulder, CO. I have two daughters and two sons-in-law.
I have been very involved with Renovare, the small group movement that grew out of Richard Foster's book, Celebration of Discipline. I brought the program to First Pres., wrote a monthly newsletter for it for several years, and organized a regional Renovare conference in Boulder that was held in January of 1994. I have taught yearlong adult Sunday school classes that were an in-depth look at the Spiritual Disciplines, and I do workshops and retreats on the Spiritual Disciplines. My book, written with co-author Dr. Marti Watson Garlett, 'Habits of a Child's Heart: Raising Your Kids with the Spiritual Disciplines' is published by NavPress (2004). "Spiritual Disciplines Devotional: A Year of Readings" (InterVarsity Press) was published in 2007.
I served six years on the National Board for the 'Leadership Program for Musicians Serving Small Congregations' (LPM), a cooperative ecumenical continuing education program for 'under trained' church musicians and taught in a local LPM program. I received my Masters in Church Music and Organ from Valparaiso University. I have a B.A. in Music and Psychology from Metropolitan State College in Denver. I am currently the Coordinator of Music Ministries for a Lutheran church in Colorado.
I am one of the music reviewers for the American Recorder Society's national magazine and I was one of the main editors for Chautauqua Porches, a community cookbook in honor of the Boulder Chautauqua's hundredth anniversary in 1998. My newest hobby is playing American Mah Jongg.
