An excellent translation,
By T P Jarvis (Hull, East Yorkshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius: Based on Studies in the Language of the Autograph (Paperback)
St Ignatius spiritual classic is brought to life by this translation. The well presented additional information on the life and times of the saint is very helpful. St Ignatius' method of deepening ones spirituality and closeness to God really works. I had a few problems with some quirks deriving from the dark side of medieval Catholicism. Nevertheless this is an excellent book and the exercises are profitable if adopted sensibly. A good read for the church historian and Christian believer alike.

The Most Reliable Translation,

Ignatius was a soldier in the 16th century in Spain. He dictated the way that helped him grow closer to God. Given this context one can see why an authentic translation is difficult and necessarily 'ancient' in literature style. Ignatius himself adapted this when helping different people.
I believe Fr. Puhl is the first one who has given number to the text. This system becomes the standard followed by most if not all authors writing about the Spiritual Exercises subsequently. His translation is recommended for the students in the Toronto School of Theology.

This is a very accurate text that can help everyone searching for their purpose with God find it. More importantly it is a workout for the true spiritual athlete to use to focus, develop and rid themselves of distraction.
