Authentic Taoist Alchemy Revealed,
By A Customer
This review is from: Spiritual Qi Gong: A Practical Taoist Manual for Health, Longevity and Self-Realization! (Paperback)
Spiritual Qi Gong is a book that took me step-by-step from the begining to advance taoist qi gong. This simple book explains the actual methods of meditation, including the very secret, advance Kan and Li practices, other books talk about them, but do not explain how do to do them. What I like about this book is its direct approach to explaining the practices, there is not plenty of theory that confused me, I can read about various theories from many other books to suplemental these methods. I now have these taoist qi gong practices, I have searched for many years to get them, thank you so much David Twicken!

Fascinating Book on Taoist Spirutal Alchemy,
By A Customer
This review is from: Spiritual Qi Gong: A Practical Taoist Manual for Health, Longevity and Self-Realization! (Paperback)
Thank you david for writing this book on Taoist Internal Alchemy. I have searched for many years to learn these ancient, secret teachings. All the books on Qi Gong are about basic practices for general health, which is great, but do not focus the spiritual meditaitons and the Taoist Alchemy. This book is very straight forward, listing the meditations or formulas in a clear, step-by-step manner, not the general and confusing way in so many taoist books. If you are looking for a complete system of Taoist Nei Gong - Internal Alchemy as discussed in the Taoist Cannons, this is the book for you. There is no other book in english describing these levels, especially the "Kan and Li" practices.

This Book Lacks Clarity and Practicality,
By A Customer
This review is from: Spiritual Qi Gong: A Practical Taoist Manual for Health, Longevity and Self-Realization! (Paperback)
I haven't been a student of Qi Gong for very long, but I found that much of the information in this book can be found else where and with greater clarity. I also found that his writing failed to engage me the way other authors of this subject have. In all, I found it a bit detached, and lacking the practicality I believe this subject requires for a Westerner. I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner, but it may be useful to an accomplished practicioner who is seeking insights they haven't found elsewhere.

This review is from: Spiritual Qi Gong: A Practical Taoist Manual for Health, Longevity and Self-Realization! (Paperback)
You have to give David credit for writing this up, this is the only explicit explanation of the alchemical practices (Kan & Li) I've found in English.I'm glad I bought the book, and you might want to know what you are going to get before you buy it. This is very very very terse, more like a class handout than a text - briefer than the "cliff notes version". If you don't know already know the practices, you'll likely want to buy other books (such as Mantak Chia's) that describe each practice. The sexual practices to conserve and transform energy for the higher alchemical practices are not mentioned at all. If you are a student of Master Chias, these techniques are somewhat different and may be of keen interest for that reason. If David learned these from Master Chia, then this information pre-dates 1987 and have been taught in a different form since then. This is a 142 page book - 90 pages of text plus plus almost 50 pages of appendices on the chinese calendar, which I assume are included as filler. Less than 10 pages actually describe the alchemical (Kan & Li) practices. The other techniques are similarly briefly described. 5 elements rejuvenation chi kung (the 6 healing sounds) - 2 pages. Smile Chi Kung (the inner smile) 2 pages. 18 pages of 5 element theory including creation & destruction cycle. Heavenly Orbit Chi Kung (microcosmic orbit) - 5 pages. Eight treasures chi kung (fusion I and II) - 10 pages. Shen-Spirit Realization (Higher Alchemy overview) - 2 pages, navel dan tien center (lesser kan & li) - 2.5 pages, solar plexus tan tien center (greater kan & li) - 2.5 pages. Heart Tan Tien Center (greatest kan & li) - 1.5 pages. Having learned all the practices (except kan & li) from Master Chia, I have no difficulty following David's brief clear instructions. If your point of reference is books like Taoist Yoga: Alchemy & Immortality by Charles Luk and Lu K'uan Yu, or various ancient chinese texts ("the moon rises over the cinnabar field") you'll find this book to be a model of clarity.

Rosetta Stone of Taoist Yoga,
This review is from: Spiritual Qi Gong: A Practical Taoist Manual for Health, Longevity and Self-Realization! (Paperback)
This book has in a down to earth, streamlined and straight forward manner communicated the secret teachings of Taoist alchemist. Based on the authors years of study and searching, delivered in one book is a complete system of spiritual attainment. The book "Spiritual Qi Gong" is nothing short of a rosetta stone for Taoist practice, bringing to life this ancient teaching. Try reading a translation of a classic Taoist text and then turning around and putting it into practice, well now you can. I thank the author for taking a leap of faith in writing this book, it marks a new day in 21st century Taoist practice.

Qi Gong not given in detail here.,

This review is from: Spiritual Qi Gong: A Practical Taoist Manual for Health, Longevity and Self-Realization! (Paperback)
This looks like a good book for those who want to start practising this ancient spiritual system. It is not a lot different in principle to Kundalini Pranayama. However the book is not explanatory enough. It uses terms that are not explained. If the author had been more thorough in his work and written it with the beginner in mind, explaining fully the terms and exercises then this could have been a great manual for Qi Gong practice. As it is, it has been ruined for a pennies worth of salt.

This review is from: Spiritual Qi Gong: A Practical Taoist Manual for Health, Longevity and Self-Realization! (Paperback)
Easy and simple introduction to Qi Gong that is Spiritual alchemy. This book is highly recommended...David told me that the more one relaxes, the formulas will begin to flow. I highly recommend this important book. This is not for the beginner however. One should have a firm understanding of Qigong and self-massage grounding before entering this intense gate of a book. HIIGHLY recommended.

This book is an excellent summary. It helps to have already studied this material, as this book cuts right to the chase with no supplemental info, so you don't get the full flavor of the dish. But the calories are there. This is solid reference material for your library.
