About the Author
Born in 1913 in a farming community in Washington, Indiana. He started studying the priesthood in 1932 and was ordained in 1940 at St. Louis Cathedral, New Orleans, Louisiana. Three years later he enlisted in the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps and served in Africa and Italy before leaving the rank as major.
In 1947 he received a Masters of Science from University of Notre DameOn May 2, 1968, Pope Paul VI and was the founding Bishop of Orlando, Florida. Six years later he transferred to Baltimore where he was named Archbishop of the Premier See. He served for 15 years until his retirement in 1989. He continues to teach and lecture.
