2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but lacking substance...
Last year at the age of 40, I finally discovered that there is a word for the way I've always been...Polyamorous. Until I discovered the word I honestly didn't know that there were so many other souls that find loving and being sexually intimate with more than one person simulateously a natural occurance, and I struggled constantly with feelings of guilt and confusion...

5.0 out of 5 stars Disestablishmentarian, January 23, 2004
By
This review is from: Spiritual Polyamory (Paperback)
To be a disestablishmentarian means to me, that you challenge the way the world is presented. To say that there is another reality that exists other than the cultural norm. Mystic Life (ML) is a personal friend of mine, and I can honestly say that he lives his life in this manner. His book Spiritual Polyamory is a reflection of this life pattern. ML calls into question the norm of single monogamous relationships, bringing into perspective the idea of love of self, and love of others as a key aspect of human relationships. This book is a treatise on how loving onself leads to a more comfortable love with and for others. That this love may not be bound within the normally accepted confines of a monogamous relationship is going to be challenging for the rigid, moralistic, and unaccepting. It intuitively makes sense, however the task is having the courage to make the change in one's life despite the risk of being ostracized. Spiritual Polyamory makes sense, and is a great way to see one's life from another view, a view that could truly lead you to happiness and fulfillment.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most important book, August 2, 2004

This book clearly, succinctly, and powerfully provides a positive, life-affirming alternative to live more fully, spiritually, and authentically - at least for most. Its clear from the writing that we have been programmed to believe in only one way to express love and our authentic selves. This book provides the truth that there is another way, another paradigm in which we may find more joy, more health, more love. I appreciate the author's way of nonjudgmentally inviting the reader to consider a more expanding viewpoint, a perspective of unlimited love and joy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, February 10, 2004
By
This review is from: Spiritual Polyamory (Paperback)
This is absolute brilliance. Where has this author been? I'm already angry at him/her for not coming out with the next work of art yet.

I was strongly encouraged by a friend and mentor to read this book. Initially, I experienced resistance as I noticed Life's paradigms potentially clashing with my previous belief systems. Then the brilliance: not only does Life articulate refreshing perspectives that remind me of what I wish I could articlute, but he does so in a way that is simultaneoulsy bold and non-threatening. Brilliant!

"The governments of nations are impersonal entities that arise out of the illusion of separation between the people of the world." Quite possibly the most powerful written sentence I have ever encountered. This book left me with a sense of expansiveness and peacefulness. It's left me thinking. It's left me challenging my own thoughts and beliefs. That's huge. Well done, Life. What's next?

This book is a short yet significant read. It combines spirtuality with sexuality and relationships in a way that I haven't seen done so well. While the author uses heterosexuality as his frame of reference (since it is the lifestyle he admits to knowing) his writting applies to various forms of relationships. This is a book that people in both polyamorous and monogamous sexual relationships could use. While it does focus on sexual polyamory to an extent, the author does a good job of pointing out how/why we are all polyamorus. I would suggest reading the ethical slut as a way to get an introduction to the "lifestyle" but this would be a great companion to it. I feel it goes a little more in depth into the emotional and spiritual side of things.

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but lacking substance..., May 22, 2009

This review is from: Spiritual Polyamory (Paperback)
Last year at the age of 40, I finally discovered that there is a word for the way I've always been...Polyamorous. Until I discovered the word I honestly didn't know that there were so many other souls that find loving and being sexually intimate with more than one person simulateously a natural occurance, and I struggled constantly with feelings of guilt and confusion. Mystic's take on polyamory from a spiritual perspective is right on target for my own experiences, but the book did not really help me learn anything that I didn't already know or feel. If you're looking for a book to educate you about polyamory, this isn't the book. This book seems to be more of a very short summary of Mystic's philosophy of spiritual poly and less about the nuts and bolts of living that lifestyle in a primarily monogamous society.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you for the clarity, November 26, 2011
This review is from: Spiritual Polyamory (Paperback)
This gave me such a good understanding of how incredibly programmed I am (still). For all the things I've been able to see through in this nutty world, I did not see this one. Not even close. I completely bought into the idea that my inability to have a fulfilling romantic relationship was simply a matter of not having the right person. Even though I completely resented the idea and found myself unable to perform most times, I accepted the idea of obligation when it came to sex in a marriage. I felt tremendous guilt when my body wouldn't let me be sexual with my husband. I went to therapists, tried medication to increase sex drive, my husband took Prozac in an effort to lower his sex drive. All insane. All because of the co-dependence we shared. He felt he'd die without another physical body to play with, I thought I'd die without his financial support...both were afraid of losing each other to someone else. We became deeply intertwined in something completely dysfunctional. It clouded our judgment completely and eventually led to deep anxiety and illness on my part.

This was an incredible book. I'm so happy it exists. It's like a psychedelic trip...I've read it and now my mind is a bit blown. I know I'll need time to integrate.

I have purchased at least five different titles on polyamory, and this is by far the shortest of the books -- however, it is to me the most essential of all I have read because it gives the true MEANING of just why polyamory is such a wonderful "next rung on humanity's ladder" if you will.

I can't say enough good things about this book so I won't try. Get it. Even if polyamory is not for you, it will help you understand any loved ones or friends who embrace it in such a way that you can feel at peace with their/our decision to be polyamorous. Bravo, Mystic Life...!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Remedy for Relationship Sluts...., April 13, 2006

So it wasnt that I was crazy and all my lovers left me, it was simply the nature of the beast. What about not being possessive and insecure by keeping our mate on our belt; let him free and you be free and then if you both still hit it on, then it is really love.
I loved this pithy and logical book
