Book Description

July 1, 2008 0800663209 978-0800663209
In our contemporary evolutionary worldview, the universe is in a continuous creative transformation. What is true of the universe is also true of human life, says eminent theologian Karl Peters, as he explores the many forms of spiritual transformations - from predictable passages experienced with age, to the unexpected passages we are required to make, to religious conversion, to calamity and even death. All of our personal transformations, Peters claims, have a spiritual dimension and take place within a cosmic context.

Through story and analysis, Spiritual Transformations draws out how these experiences bring us into our sacred center, bring about wholeness, release us from self-preoccupation, and relate us in new ways to others, the earth, and the cosmos itself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Help for Life's Hurdles, August 17, 2008
By
Alton R. Jenkins (Cincinnati, OH USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Spiritual Transformations: Science, Religion, and Human Becoming (Facets) (Facets) (Paperback)
Everyone goes through life-changing events during their lives. Informed by science and many of the world's religious traditions, the author reflects upon several such events--often from a very personal perspective--that he has experienced within his own life: changes in health, entering a new situation in life, birth and death. I found his reflections to be very useful in complementing my own feeble attempts to be more mindful of changes in my own life. I believe many can find this short book to be a useful tool in contemplating the spiritual nature of the changes that they have also experienced, changes that can be transformative in character. I heartedly recommend this book.

This is a wise, concise and very readable book which describes the author's experience from dealing with life's milestones. He offers comfort and guidance from the perspective of those who do not rely on a supernatural God. Many personal examples are very helpful.
