Forgotten Swedish death metal EP, January 22, 2010
This review is from: Spiritually Uncontrolled Art (Audio CD)
The 1996 EP Spiritually Uncontrolled Art was the sole release from Liers in Wait, an overlooked part of the 90's Gothenburg Swedish melodic death metal scene. Liers in Wait has a sound similar to At the Gates and (early) In Flames and Dark Tranquillity. It's low on melody and high on speed and aggression. They also remind me a bit of Ceremonial Oath, both in terms of their overall sound and their fluid lineup, which centered around guitarist Kristian Wahlin and at times included Christoffer Johnsson (Therion), Thomas Lindberg and Anders Bjorler (At the Gates) and briefly Daniel Erlandsson (Arch Enemy).
Spritually Uncontrolled Art barely clears the 17-minute mark, and 1:34 of that is an instrumental closing track, but it's still a fast, intense burst of Swedish death metal that fans of that scene will want to hear. Fortunately it's still available and affordable, both of which surprise me.
