Book Description

The Kindle Best Selling Paranormal Romance Series
A love that refuses to die...

"As I watched him vanish into a soft mist that faded away, I knew that he was no ordinary spirit...I knew that he was a dangerous entity that could be in some corner of another realm planning his revenge, but I also knew that I was hopelessly in love with him."

When Becca moves into her ancestral home in Corydon, Indiana, her life takes a puzzling and thrilling turn when she meets the ghost haunting the halls. As the seductive spirit lures her closer and closer, she learns about her own past and starts to understand that some mistakes are meant to last.

Becca McAllister has always been different from other girls her age. Never part of the "in crowd", Becca never really fit in anywhere. When her mother dies and her father moves them to the small town of Corydon, Indiana, Becca didn't expect things to change.

But things do change when Becca accidentally makes contact with a one hundred and sixty year old ghost, Alastor Sinclair, that haunts the halls of her new home.

To Becca, Alastor is a seductive spirit that seems to see straight into her soul. To Alastor, Becca is what he has waited a century for--A second chance.

But the closer they get, the more Becca realizes that this isn't the first time she and Alastor have known each other. Worse still, is she the one responsible for his death so long ago? And if so, did he come back for love or revenge?

From the Author

Many people think that paranormal romances are something for teenagers or the Twilight crowd, but here I am as an adult and a mother, and I can't get enough of them.  So what is the attraction that makes me read and write paranormal romances?

I have to admit, as a reader, the answer is easy.  The stories are just awesome!  It's so refreshing to move beyond the tired plots of boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy finds girl again, and they all live happily ever after.  Give me a challenge!  Give me creatures that roam the night!  Give me a hero with a supernatural secret or a heroine that can see the future!

Thanks to the paranormal romances out there, people are reading again.  Where once only reality shows ruled, now books are sneaking back into everyday conversations of young and old alike. No matter which side of the Twilight argument you are on, it is so refreshing to see teenagers arguing the thematic elements of the novels and to hear adults contemplating the sexual undertones of the books.

That being said, the next question is why would I write in the paranormal genre.  Seriously?  You have to ask?

As a writer, what is better than having no limits?  Remember all those unbelievable stories you acted out with your dolls?  Mine were fairies, secret witches, keepers of unicorns, and everything else.  How many story lines did I just name?

In the genre of the paranormal there are so many possibilities.  Anything that I can imagine is possible.  In some ways it's like a being a kid all over again!

There are people that say that these books aren't "real literature", but my question is, what makes "real literature"?  Is it a literary novel that is assigned to high school kids that they dread reading or is it a story that moves an entire generation?

I've read "real literature" and I've lied about liking "real literature", but the truth is I prefer Harry Potter or The Vampire Diaries.  I think if more people were honest, they would admit that too.
Okay, maybe these books are not the technical definition of "real literature", but who cares?  If people, especially young people, are reading, can't we just be satisfied?

2.0 out of 5 stars More dysfunctional than romantic...... December 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This story was so not for me! I downloaded the free chapters and enjoyed meeting Becca and her new friends Ally and Billie, but when I downloaded the whole story and kept reading, the romance became disappointing and the ending - tragic.

Spoilers

Becca and her friends unknowingly call a ghost named Alastor into Becca's new home. Alastor was killed by his wife 100 years ago after returning from war mentally scarred and drowning his memories in alcohol and women. Becca discovers that she looks like Alastor's wife and can remember their courting and murdering him. She falls in love with his ghost and her feelings for Alastor prevent her from falling for a real boy named Jonah from school.

This romance is dysfunctional on so many levels that it really was agony to read. Even though Jonah's character was not flushed out very well, I was still wanting Becca to choose him and for Alastor to give her up. Although Becca's longing for Alastor was romantic at times, the pure weirdness of loving a ghost she could never touch and Alastor's obsessive behavior over her was not. Really, I thought that maybe Alastor's ghost just needed to be forgiven by Becca's body and he would find peace in death. Then Becca would be able to refocus her own feelings on to Jonah, who seems like a great guy, and live her own life. After all, it has been 100 years, she is not the same Becca that Alastor feel in love with anyways. Not. What. Happens. In the end, I just felt sorry for Jonah who was going to be hurt again by these two dysfunctional people that I really don't even like.

This story had many misspelled words (ex: take for talk)that do lend to some momentary confusion. I never take off for editing, just warning those who can't take bad editing.

Would I/Did I buy it? Yes (.99)
Would I read it again? No
Would I recommend it to friends? No

4.0 out of 5 stars Spiritus April 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Fun enjoyable YA read that's good from start to finish!

Becca unhappily moves with her dad to new house, to a place on the map that she has never been and has to attend a new school. This move was decided by her dad as a fresh start to live a dream that he has always had and once shared with his deceased wife. Becca takes it all with stride and continues to hold her head up high. That is until strange things happen and she starts seeing a handsome man (named Alastor) in her dreams. Or is it?

It's a funny thing when fate is involved. You never see what's happening and you just cannot stop it!

**4.5 Stars**

Spirits. Something that some people believe to have seen and to walk among us. Now imagine that you move in to an old home and see one of a handsome *cough* Sexy..young man who claims that he is your true love from the past. Well that's what Author Dana Michelle Burnett gives her readers in Spiritus.

Becca is just trying to find her place at her new school, when she invites some new friends over to her home and they have a séance in her room for fun. Little do they know that they have caught someone's attention. From the moment Becca meets her ghost Alastor, she feels a connection to him. At first she is doubtful that he is real, but she starts to remember things. Memories from another time. As Becca struggles to separate past from present. She also struggles with the love Alastor claims he has for her and a question... Does he love her or the one from the past??

The characters were great! I think I loved Alastor a little more than Becca, but I just have a thing for sexy, tortured heros! Alastor is protective, loyal, sexy and still completely in love with his Becca after all those years. At times, I got annoyed with him because even though Becca does remember him and their memories together, she isn't the same one! They may look the same but they are two different people. His anger would frighten me. I wanted to say ITS NOT PAST BECCA!!!! LOL but what can you expect from a ghost who at last believes he has been given a 2nd chance with his long lost love?!?

Spritus was great! I loved it!! This is only the beginning and I am waiting for book 2, Haunted, to come out later this year. You can feel the desperate need of the characters to be together while knowing they can't physically touch!! Check it out and find out what happens!
