5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great band!
Listen up people, this is a great band! They rock harder thanHole at their hardest and they have good lyrics. This is a Canadian band and they're not getting any support in Canada. They'll only get support on Canadian rock radio if they're played in the U.S. Any metal fan will appreciate a girl band that goes where few females have gone before. Kittie deserve to be out...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Heavy Metal Band I Do Like, April 22, 2000
This review is from: Spit (Audio CD)
Kittie coming straight out of.......nowhere just clawed the music scene with, yeah I was shocked too, talent. Rock music hasn't been doing much of anything lately but thankfully Kittie have arrived to, uh, rock! They may look gothic (can't blame them for good taste), but this isn't gothic music, though "Immortal" has a gothic touch to it. Indeed, this is more like Pantera than Bauhaus. The lead singer, Morgan, can go from feminine vocals to Philip Anselmo faster than my black cat could retract her claws (yeah, I know, these girls already have enough cat jokes). Mercedes is an amazing drummer and Fallon and Talena riff with the best of them. A very talented group at a very young age. The best songs are "Spit", "Charlotte", "Brackish" and "Paperdoll". At times these songs sound like the last but that's okay, if it isn't broke, don't fix it. These songs are harder than Marilyn Manson and Coal Chamber combined, they'd scare off those Hot Topic 'goth-metal' bozos that have been going around like the plague (and just like the plague, avoid that poseur stuff). This is a very strong debut, but I know their next CD will wipe out the compitition. I read how a lot of people say stuff like 'wow, chicks'. Remember, Britney Spears is a woman too, but she hasn't done anything important. Kittie are loud, dirty, explicit, angry fun. Seeing as this is metal, I can't think of a better compliment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Me(ow)tal, June 16, 2000
This review is from: Spit (Audio CD)
Metal. Usually it's from guys who have attitude problems and scream because they can't sing. Kittie. A heavy metal band (real metal too, none of this rap/metal stuff) that doesn't have any guys, has brains, and can sing. Imagine that. The lyrics are intelligent, the riffs are awesome, and you can't help but bang your head. The boys of Pantera would be proud. Unlike todays trend of throwing a bunch of musical genres into a pot and trying to pass it off as something new, this is pure metal. Well, the last two tracks aren't, but I'm getting to that. Metal like Pantera, Anthrax, and the younger Metallica. Screams, crunch, destroy. Yes, that type of metal. The first track "Spit" is amazing. Morgan's screams are enough to pop your ear-drums. But she also can sing better than Britney Spears. "Charlotte" is the best example of this. The softer "Paperdoll" too. "Suck" is great, my favorite part is the break in the song, then Morgan blows up. The drumming is powerful. Mercedes is one of the best drummers out right now. Just listen to "Brackish". "Jonny" is another great song. The riffs are awesomw. Pretty much any song shows that. The last song "Immortal" is a gothic instrumental. I really like it too, it sounds more like an intro, but that's besides the point. This is a classic metal album. Go get it.

SUCK...this is where it goes downhill, and never gets the guts to go back up...2/10
DO YOU THINK...HA!, she CANT scream at all even if her grandma's life dpended on it...1/10
BRACKISH...another ok song, but not one to listen to it all the time...9/10
JONNY...worst song on the cd...i know jonny probably didnt deserve this crappy song named after him...0/10
TRIPPIN'...most of this song sucks up until 1:40 which is my fav. part then it sucks again at 1:58...2/10
RAVEN...another song that makes me laugh...i guess her grandma died . oh well...1/10
GET OFF...the first 6 seconds rule but then it sucks again...2/10
CHOKE...the first verse is pretty good then it goes down, down, down...surpise, surprise!...1/10
PAPERDOLL...her singing is ok, but it doesnt fit in here ...2/10
IMMORTAL...this is where it picks up (but its over after this) its probably good cuz theres no attempted screaming in here...10/10
BRACKISH<VIDEO...not that great...theres a couple of good scenes in it but most of it sucks a lot...2/10

so basically...oracle is better, and if you dont think so and still want some good female metal/goth stuff, you should get...MY RUIN...JACK OFF JILL...OPETH...OTEP...DISTILLERS (distillers isnt really metal/goth stuff, its more punk, but its still really good and female fronted)...so there you have it...this isnt as good as people say

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting twist in the hardcore genre, March 27, 2000

"source-man" (Birmingham, AL) - See all my reviews

I came across Kittie's cd at a Sound Shop store in the mall, where they had a listening station setup. They looked cool, so I figured, hey why not. After listening to random tracks, I must say I was very impressed. No one had really heard of the band yet, so I took got the album for a great price and have loved it ever since.

A little background: Kittie is in a group within the highly populated genre of hardcore. It's hard to put a creative dent in there with so much already having been done, but here's how they did it. First off, the band is what some call a "chic band." There's been very few solid all-girl hard groups in the past, and I feel Kittie has really set the standard for females in this respect. I can recall no other all female group rocking out as much as they do. Next, it's amazing that these girls can produce such a competitive album and have a contract through the rising Artemis records, and still be in high school! I doubt there's another highschool band at all that has achieved their level of success. My appraise goes to these precedents set by Kittie.

Now for the music: Instrumentally, Kittie is characterized by almost continuous screams and hard guitar riffs (an exception being "Paperdoll.") It'll surely get your head banging, but this technique gets rather old without a little variation. Going into some occasional slower "smart" ballads can give the listener a sense of depth and feeling in hard music. Lyrically, you'll find inward and outward directed anger and aggression. For "take out your pissedoffness on the screwed world" music, it's really nice, but a little insight and ingenuity would be nice.

Overall, Kittie has accomplished what no other artists have yet done. They're a proud addition to hardcore music. The debut album is hard, fast, and exciting, just needs a little creativity.

4.0 out of 5 stars They rock harder than some of da boys., November 8, 1999
By A Customer

I'm glad to see a girl group that can rock with the boys if not better. We need more hardcore chicks. If you think they don't have the "balls" to rock with angst, you're wrong. Spit and Paperdoll remind me of a x between korn and hole. The whole thing reaks of taste. I think everyone should try this Badass girl band. The new L7!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Damn Good, September 30, 2005
This review is from: Spit (Audio CD)
I first saw this album in HMV and thought the cover was really cool. Though I will buy albums of bands I've never heard before now, back then it wasn't the same. And I'm glad I didn't then.
I went home and downloaded the title track "Spit". I was absolutely amazed at how heavy it was, and wasn't so sure I liked it. (completely different if it was now, as I am now into loads of heavy bands) Though I continued listening to it, and began to absolutely LOVE it. After having a friend send me "Charlotte" and "Brackish", I decided I would buy the album. But hey ho, low and behold, it wasn't there anymore! I asked the people behind the counter, but they said they couldn't order it in anymore.
Then, just a month ago, I saw it in another branch and immediately bought it before I lost it again. IT IS AMAZING! "Brackish" is one of the heaviest songs I've ever heard by a female band, and creates a crazy mosh-pit (which I have seen happen to it in our local rock club The Cathouse). "Paperdoll" has really clever lyrics and a very interesting guitar part. "Immortal" is a lovely instrumental. And "Choke" is just basically a friggin' AMAZING song.
If you are considering buying any of Kittie's albums, buy this one! If you happen to see it, and it is the only one left, buy it straight away and stick it on. It's honestly worth it.
The new album "Until The End" is quite good, but NOTHING compared to this one. This is Kittie at their best. I have yet to hear the second album, but will soon! In the meantime, don't be afraid to give this a go. Worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kittie = beauty, January 25, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Spit (Audio CD)
Spit - 5 stars...I think this song is so perfect seeing as you can feel the energy of the album right away, and it gets you pumped for more. I love it and its constantly on repeat.

Charlotte - 5 stars...This is the song that got me into Kittie. I love the unexpected way Morgan screams in this one. Its a beautiful song.

Suck - 5 stars...This song is very intense. I love how it ends, because just when you think its going to fade out, Morgan screams at the top her lungs. Yay, Morgan :P

Do You Think ... - 3 stars...When this song starts, Morgan's voice sounds a little raspy, like she's tired, that's really the only part I dislike. Its not one of my favorites however.

Brackish - 4 stars...Brackish has a lot of energy, and the lyrics are wonderful.

Jonny - 5 stars...This song is another one of my favorites. It has a very good message. Jonny gets what he deserves. >:o)

Trippin' - 5 stars...Another work of art that I constantly play over and over. Its ablaze with raw fury and non-stop energy.

Raven - 4 stars...A good song, but I prefer the live version of this track because it has much more energy, and I got more into the live version.

Get Off - 5 stars...I LOOOVE the way this song begins, its drenched in complete and utter beauty, and Morgan's vocal talent really shines in this one.

Choke - 3 stars...Not a bad song Just not a favorite.

Paperdoll - 5 stars...Another beautiful track with a very honest message about how some men percieve women as their little dolls they can dress up and then destroy when they get tired of them.

Immortal - 5 stars...IMO a perfect and beautiful ending to one of the best CD's I own.

In order to take away anything from this record you must dig deeper into the lyrical content. I've found that Kittie is all about teaching girls to be strong, independent women who won't let guys take advantage of them for any reason. To the average person a message such as this may not be present upon first listen. Not only do you have to listen with your ears, but with your heart, and anyone with half a brain listening to this album will realize that this band has put 110% of themselfs into their work. Kittie is a unique and bursting blast of energy and emotion that will have you thinking as well as banging your head to the beat. :0) Kittie's music is beauty.

from the cover, the girls in kittie look like they could gnash their teeth into you and rip you apart.from the "brackish" video, this becomes a reality, as it shows a shark tearing things to bloody pieces, and incorporates everything the band is about-violent riffs and vocals with no mercy for anyone."spit","suck",and "raven" are probably the three heaviest cuts on the cd, but they are all grinding tracks."brackish" is the catchy and speedy single, while "paperdoll" is the mellowed out and somber track."charlotte" was a good choice for a second single, as it is tasteful enough for radio without sacrificing everything the girls strive for."immortal" is a weird, and trancy type track, while "do you think im a *****" has a catchy first line of the chours, which states the song title.the only few drawbacks of this cd are the somewhat muddy production and the sometimes piercing and aggravating vocals of morgan lander.other than that, the songs are straight, quick, and to the point, they explode with fury, and prove that not just men can rock loud and hard.
