1.0 out of 5 stars Spitfire Grill
This was basically a movie soundtrack, not the lyrical music from the musical. I was disappointed.

Those of you who liked the musical background of the Titanic will enjoy the relaxing music of The Spitfire Grill. Although a lesser known film, the movie and the soundtrack are a masterpiece. Although the piano on certian tracks isn't exactly going to put Van Morrison and Tori Amos out of buisness and one can find better flute melodies, this is certianlly a unforgettable purchase.

Everytime I hear the Uncertain Future/Main Title I get lulled and very connected to the chords. In a way, this CD betters Titanic. On Hannah's Fall we hear the tempest of the storm, and on Open For Buisness you get the saying, "Come on, it's time to go!" flying in your head. Very sound before you go to work.

I have nothing but good things to say. If you saw the movie, liked it, you'll love this soundtrack. Even if you don't like all instrumental music, this still is a unique buy that will gather no dust on your cd-rack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well done, September 10, 2008
This review is from: Spitfire Grill (Audio CD)
I was forced to put in a review after seeing the one-star review by "A. Ethan." It's so absurdly stupid to review a product poorly because one purchased a clearly-labeled movie score when he wanted a completely different album. Like reviewing McDonald's poorly because you wanted to go to Ruth's Chris. Spend more time in literacy class.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music to make your spirit soar!, July 24, 2009

I discovered the stage musical version of THE SPITFIRE GRILL while researching a show to direct for our local community theatre. I fell in love with the script and the music, and then ordered the DVD of the movie on which the musical was based. What an amazing film! If you haven't seen it, do! It only stoked the fires of my passion to bring the musical to stage, which I'm happy to say will happen in February 2010! In the meantime I plot and scheme and make notes as I read and reread the script and listen to the CD of the stage musical over and over. When it's time to unwind and relax and open myself up to inspiration, it's this movie soundtrack to which I turn. I have long been a fan of James Horner, and this score is, in my opinion, Horner at his best! He brings to life the characters, the moods, the sights, the FEELING of Gilead in a way that stirs one's emotions... to tears in places and to soaring heights of joy in others. You do not, however, need to be familiar with THE SPITFIRE GRILL - movie OR musical - to be transported by this music. Whether you listen while you meditate, while you create (write, paint, draw, dance...), or as a backdrop to your day, it will touch you. I do not often buy music soundtracks. This one, I am buying in bulk to gift to friends. You will not regret making the purchase for yourself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spitfire Grill - wonderful music score, May 8, 2011

James Horner is certainly one of the top five film composers in Hollywood and has produced some of the outstanding scores of the past two decades. Almost always original, his scores are the product of artistic technique and brilliant originality. Spitfire Grill is simply beautiful - reminding us often of Bernstein's "Mockingbird" with it's magical piano and flute cues and lovely string textures. Solo instruments frequently shine above the entire orchestra in haunting melodic figures and major thematic material underscores the most moving dramatic scenes. This is truly one of Horner's best film scores.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Than the Film, December 5, 2009

Though I found the film unoriginal and uninspired, I love the soundtrack. It has to be one of James Horner's best. He's a composer who has suffered from frequently being asked to copy himself to please directors who simply want a score that sounds like another Horner score. It goes with the territory--you edit the film using previously-written cues and the director falls in love with that cut using those cues. The composer is forced to come up with music that is very similar to his previous effort--but somehow different. In SPITFIRE GRILL, Horner manages to evoke a kind of rural mysticism that is both relaxing and quite comforting to experience. It's a great disc for long drives through the countryside.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of his Best, July 9, 2002
This review is from: Spitfire Grill (Audio CD)
There are some cases in which the music from a film can stand out on its own. This is one of them.

James Horner composed some of his best musical work ever in his career. The music is very peacful without even being boring. This music will also silence some of his critics who complained
that he could not composed orinigal work without using some of his older themes from previous films. I know James Horner Does repeat himself often with other albums but not this one.

A Highly recommended to all of Horner fans.

This is one of Horner's lost soundtrack and that is a pity.He used some of this music in Titanic most notably track 10 from this CD and track 13 on Titanic are almost the same in some level.

I really liked his way how this music was done especially track 1 7 8 10 11 12 13 and 14 It is differnt in a way how it sounds but it is not good or bad but very nice. better check this out.
