(4.5 Stars) Sexcapades...Everybody's Got A Story!, March 19, 2009
This review is from: Spittin' Game (Paperback)
In Spittin' Game, we're introduced to three brothers: Michael (the politician), Xavier (the mastermind), and Kyle (the baby brother). Each of the brothers are hilarious in this refreshing read with a memorable voice as they meet for a Pow-Wow by big brother Michael. Michael seems to have gotten himself in a tad of trouble. As a result, Xavier heads the committee for damage control and the laughs begin as each brother has a different ludicrous tale to tell as they all seek sexual pleasures with different divas.
Spittin' Game is reminiscent of an ice cold glass of lemonade on a hot summer day. Just what the doctor ordered for an original and hilarious view of life and people in general. In reading the synopsis, I was a bit doubtful, but I am so grateful that I was awarded the chance to read as well as review this novel. In the midst of the comedic scenes, T. L. Bryant develops a great storyline with an amazing flow. Every scene is so vivid as well as fascinating and reels you in with belly-aching laughter at the antics the characters are caught up in. It even has an unexpected twist at the end which confirms my belief in the author's natural storytelling skills! Of course, the author had one weakness: the infamous editing. But the book was so good, it was only a very minor distraction. I absolutely loved Spittin' Game and I highly recommend it. I'm anxious for another entertaining as well as pleasurable novel by T. L. Bryant to hopefully be released in the near future! Magnificent job!!!

ABSOLUTELY FUNNY!!!!! JUST BEGGING TO BE MADE INTO A MOVIE!!!!!, January 22, 2009
This review is from: Spittin' Game (Paperback)
I was given this book for Christmas, and have read it 2 times cover to cover since then. The book is so hilarious that you have to read it over to get what you missed the first time because you're laughing so hard. This book is seriously funny, it is sexy, it is steamy, and it is a real page-turner. I think this is the author's (Tl bryant) debut release and it is obvious he has bounds of talent and I can't wait til the next release!
One problem I have with the novel is that I wish it was longer. The book left me wanting more; which isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, a few parts of the novel felt a little rushed. Hopefully there will be a sequel. Also, there are a few editorial errors but nothing that detracts from the book and the character's experiences. The book stands so strongly on its own merits by getting its point across in such a hilarious way that a few errors are forgivable. I would make a point to the editing team that a few things were missed. But honestly, it is such a fun read who cares?
I have to disagree with anyone that thinks that females may take offense to some of lingo in the novel. I'm an African American female, my friends who also picked up the read run the gambit from Afro American, Caucasian, Latin, and Asian (ranging from 21-47 years old) and none of us took an ounce of offense to any part of the book. It is definitely a mature read but it is no means over the top or offense.
I think the author is very respectful to the women in it because the characters that try to get over on the ladies are dealt with (in the funniest of ways). If anything, the book pokes more fun at men. In fact, I just gave the book to my mother (62 years old) and she said the book has her in stitches from Chapter One.
To sum it up Spittin Game is insanely funny and a must read. I hope to see more from Bryant and I'm dying to see this on the big screen! Fabulous Job!

Adult comedies...where have they been???, January 21, 2009
This review is from: Spittin' Game (Paperback)
I have been a fan of movies for as long as I can remember. I have the ability to watch the same movies over an over again to the point where they just won't play anymore. I have never, however, been a fan of reading. Let me elaborate on that. If I am going to actually sit down and read a book, it has to keep my attention from beginning to end. Well, I got my hands on a copy of Spitting Game...and it fits my criteria for reading books perfectly.
I just finished the book and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I don't want to give anything away to those of you who have yet to read the book. But I will say this, some of the stories were so steamy, yet hysterically funny at the same time, that it prompted me to put the book down and get a drink of H2O! I enjoyed the adult humor and I feel that, while some of the stories are very elaborate, many people will be able to relate to them, as well as the characters, on some level.
There are a couple of things that I would advise the author about. First, the book has several grammatical errors in it. I am uncertain of who was responsible for the editing of the book. I also realize that nothing is perfect. However, if the author PAID someone to do the editing, he may want to get some of that money back. It disrupts the flow of the book when reading and really getting into it. That may seem harsh, but if I don't say it someone else will, in perhaps a less inviting tone. Second, Mr. Bryant will want to be cautious about his use of the word "[...]." I noticed the word is used quite often in the book. I am sure this is not a reflection of how Mr. Bryant feels towards women, but it may be found as offensive to some readers, especially that of the female audience.
Summing up, this is a very enjoyable read. You'll find comedy, drama, and suspense all rolled into one. There are even a few twists and turns here and there. For those of you who enjoy reading, I would definitely recommend the book. I would advise you, however, to keep it away from your children because it contains very...VERY adult humor.
