More About the Author

Chandra Moira Beal can't remember a time when she wasn't writing. She has kept a journal since childhood and finds inspiration in the places she's called home: California, Texas, and Britain. Her life experiences have led to books about Texas swimming holes, California amusement parks, and massage and healing for pets.

"I follow the old adage of 'write what you know'," she says. "I'm an adaptable Gemini with many varied interests, so I write about anything that crosses my path. I'm particularly interested in the sense of place and how those places shape our selves."

Chandra has co-authored books with her father, Richard Beal, and even a rabbit. She is currently living in San Diego, California, plotting her next project.

This is a very cool book. I had no idea there was so much history about Texas swimming. Great old pictures, tons of information, fascinating stories. Chandra Beal's enthusiasm for this subject really shows. First rate reading!

This book is filled with information on Central Texas Aquatic Resources. If you're looking for a guide to find the most lucrative waters to suit your mood, this is it! The author gives in-depth information on pools, watering holes, natural springs & rivers, water theme parks, and lakes. I found the author to be very knowledgeable by way of giving the reader detailed insights on each particular place to swim. Having done her share of swimming as her favorite pastime, the author's enthusiasm for pools really shows, which makes it an interesting read vying to keep the reader afloat!

I love rivers -- Hill country rivers with solid limestone beds and cool clean spring waters. Nothing like it -- not the ocean, not the gulf and not dark muddy lakes. We have the best rivers in the country here in Texas. This book is a very good resource. I wish the author would update it ... maybe put GPS spots into some of the more obscure entry points. But I will keep this one in the truck.
