5.0 out of 5 stars Great case - modified design from original Octo case

The case arrived packaged beautifully and it fits the kindle like a glove. A green and black neoprene glove that fits so well, it completely renders the joystick useless.

This review is from: OCTO Splash Proof Case (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle) Fits 8" x 5.3" (Electronics)
I ordered this case in spite of the negative reviews regarding having to take it out of the case to charge and it being hard to turn the Kindle on / off when it was in the case, because what I really wanted was a light, splash-proof case to keep my Kindle safe while camping, as we do a lot of camping and the weather is not always so nice here in the Pacific Northwest, and those two negative items were an inconvenience I was willing to put up with in order to get the protection I wanted. (Note that the negative reviews show up under a Discontinued listing for this same item, and it was not clear to me that this was an upgraded design of that listing)

I was pleasantly surprised when the item came in and found it now has a little flap at the top that you can open to turn the device on / off; and the entry port for the Kindle is now at the bottom, so you just need to fold the flap down in order to charge the Kindle.

It fits my Kindle like a glove and I love it! And what a great company for listening to customer feedback and adjusting their product to make it more user friendly. Just wish Amazon had this in the right category so it would show up under the Kindle Cases section - currently only the discontinued model shows up there - I found it on accident by searching for Octo splash proof to see if there were other models available.

This review is from: OCTO Splash Proof Case (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle) Fits 8" x 5.3" (Electronics)
I was impressed when the product came in the mail. The company packages the case in a professional-looking cardboard packaging made from recycled materials. And when I put the Kindle into the 'splash proof' case, I couldn't believe how easy it was, not only to put it in the case but also to get at the on/off switch and charging port. It fits like a glove. The buttons were pretty easy to use through the case, but I had a little trouble with the joystick at first until I got the cover situated over it a bit better. The Kindle looks so nice in this case, it's not bulky, and best of all, it was one of the least expensive cases for Kindle available! I bought a second one to give to my dad for Christmas so he can read his Kindle on the beach and not worry about water/sand--and I won't have to wrap it because the packaging looks nice on its own!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome case and amazing customer service at OCTO!, November 16, 2009

I love this case! Kudos to OCTO for actually listening to their customers and incorporating all earlier feedback into this new and improved 2nd gen case. I have both versions of the case, and the gen 2 improvements definitely make it much easier to use the on/off switch and joystick, and also allows you to easily charge the Kindle without having to remove the cover. It looks great and fits perfectly, without adding unnecessary bulk.

Equally impressive was the outstanding customer service I received from Ellen at OCTO. When I experienced a very small glitch with my gen 1 case, she went well above and beyond to make certain that I was a satisfied customer. It worked! :)

I got this case and realized it wasn't really what I was looking for in terms of providing protection for my Kindle. I wanted something that would keep my reader safe in my purse or even laying around on my end table. This would definitely keep the Kindle safe from spills and sand but it wouldn't provide the kind of shock protection or cushioning I was wanting. I may find myself using it next summer at the beach but for everyday protection, I ended up looking for something else.

This cover is very nice. Made of a good material that does not look cheap. Functions as described in the product description. It fits my kindle perfectly and I have not problems with the 5-way button. I'm very happy with this purchase.

It looks really nice, and it fits beautifully. It's water-proof so i like to take it to the tub with me all the time and i don't have to worry about splashing water on it or anything. It's all around nice protective case. You don't have to worry about anyone spilling anything on it so you can lend it to anyone and feel safer about it. The only problem (so far) is that the stick is hard to navigate! i bought a book by mistake because of it.

The case arrived packaged beautifully and it fits the kindle like a glove. A green and black neoprene glove that fits so well, it completely renders the joystick useless.

The case did allow my kindle to survive a splash or two but having to remove the kindle to navigate using the joystick is very annoying and means I leave the case at home most of the time.

Its only use in my opinion is at the beach. Once you have decided on the tome you're going to spend the next few hours reading, you can safely slip the Kindle into the case and page forward and back without any problem - the plastic viewing window is well sized and seems to resist the glare quite well meaning the fantastic Kindle screen is still easily readable and the lack of a joystick shouldn't be too much of a problem once you've decided on your reading for the day.

In summary - nice idea, and mostly good execution, but the one major flaw is pretty much a killer.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is my go to cover, October 30, 2009
This review is from: OCTO Splash Proof Case (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle) Fits 8" x 5.3" (Electronics)
i like this cover so much i'm buying another for the upgraded off on flap. its not waterproof but water resistant enough to take in my hot tub or out on my boat. i wear pants with a large side pocket and my kindle fits perfect with this cover and doesnt collect debris. best cover yet until someone comes along with a built in light that makes the plastic glow like the wedge.

2.0 out of 5 stars I ended up returning this, this case was not for me., December 31, 2009

Ok, so the highlights of this case is that it protects your kindle from spills, but the big question is... is the juice worth the squeeze. In my case no. The joystick is nearly impossible to operate through the case, the plastic cover over the screen adds a pretty annoying feature... glare. You go from the matte screen of your kindle to a gloss cover over the entire face. You can charge without removing the entire case, however you do have to un velcro the the bottom. There is also a velcro door for the power switch.

All in all the conclusion I came to is that a case that you won't use is no good at all and one that is a pain in the butt won't get used.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the beach!, December 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: OCTO Splash Proof Case (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle) Fits 8" x 5.3" (Electronics)
One of the main reasons I bought my Kindle was for vacationing purposes. Last year, I hauled 5 books with me in my luggage to the Bahamas and decided that maybe I should invest in the Kindle. However, I wanted to be able to bring it onto the beach with me and started getting worried about our next beach trip and the Kindle getting scratched with sand or a little wet with drips of water. This is the perfect beach case. It is a wetsuit for the Kindle and it will keep it protected as long as you don't drop it in the ocean. You can still use the controls without too much difficulty. It fits like a glove and looks like it belongs on the beach. I don't use this as my everyday cover, but this is the cover I will be using for all my vacationing! Not very expensive compared to replacing a Kindle!
