The acclaimed English biographer Lady Antonia Fraser is also a talented mystery writer whose Quiet As a Nun was filmed for the "Mystery!" series on public television. She is frequently heard on BBC Radio and the BBC World Service. Her other Jemima Shore mysteries include Cool Repentance, The Wild Island, and Oxford Blood.

I read all day for a living, so at night, the only thing my poor brain can handle is fluff.This book is fluff. The plot is weak and the characters seem cartoon-like. The main character is beaten up by a drunk and then proceeds to make him coffee. Picture a famous TV personality trying to spend an anonymous morning at a public library, in the Reading Room. She shows up in a Jean Muir dress, expecting not to be noticed. By anyone. I do like the way Antonia Fraser writes. You get a full picture, whether you want it or not. The story bumps along. The ending is silly and disappointing. I did like the cat.

A SPLASH OF RED by Antonia Fraser is a title I picked up because I'd read with interest several of her historical works. Ms. Fraser does not have the special something that makes for a cozy read. The book was dull to the point of boring.Nash Black, author of TRAVELERS.
