5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Star game all the way!
This game is great! I really cant praise it enough. The graphics are slick (the water physics are awesome)and framerate isnt even an issue, control is like butter and the trick system is easy to master, yet surprisingly complicated.
The levels in this game are reminiscent of theme park rides. We have a haunted mansion, ice caves, tropical lagoons and even a race...

3.0 out of 5 stars HUGE enhancements over the prequel, a FEW problems.
The huge 8 outdoor courses are disney like themed races that you race 3 laps on. And each course changes as you race in it. For example, new shortcuts and dynamited out for you in gold mine rush, the mechanical dinosaurs break down on the final lap. Ghosts and Ghouls overtake the village on that last lap, while on the first lap things are relatively peaceful in Haunted...

The levels in this game are reminiscent of theme park rides. We have a haunted mansion, ice caves, tropical lagoons and even a race through the streets of a venice-style city.
With a large amount of things to unlock from new charachters to new outfits and watercraft, this game is great in terms of replay value and extended play time.
The two player mode is great as well. Challenge a friend to some competitions of speed, style or just see who can get the highest point totals for bragging rights. Splashdown is a great game for fans of the SSX series and for those that want to pick up a game and just have some fun without having to worry about a learning curve.
I suppose that its greatest strength lies in its simplicity. Its fun! Its easy to play, its not going to ailenate an entire group of players and it doesnt take itself seriously. I'll keep the review short and sweet. Splashdown: Rides gone Wild is a great addition to ANY game library and a fun way to pass the time while you wait for the next big wave!

4.0 out of 5 stars The King of Racing Games!, August 19, 2003

This game rocks!!First of all, this game is about racing on a jet ski, while going off ramps, on crazy levels and doing tricks. If you have played splashdowns original game, you will realize that the games are a whole, lot different, mainly beacause the first one was made by Atari and Infrogames, while the second on is made by THQ and rainbow studios.
There are also different modes.
traning mode:you can lern how to steer, manuver and do stunts.
Career Mode: You pick your Character to do a career. You can also earn points to unlock characters, jet skis, and wet suits.
Arcade Mode:All one Player fun. you can also earn points in arcade but not as much.
V.S. mode: grab a friend and race! It earns points but not very many.
warehouse: the place where you trade in points for charachters, jet skis and wet suits.

the only charachters they keep from the old game is Andy pierce, Haily holister, Kyoko Takahashi, and Amman Ra.the new characters are, Jonah Barett, Sha Blamm!!, "Wrong way" Mcnabb, and Coral Suarez. There are four more super secret characters, but I won't spoil the fun!
Now I will score the game.

Graphics 5/5 the graphics are awsome, they are probably some of the best I have ever seen!

Sound 4/5 I actually love the sound tracks, but not everybody will like the music, That is why I gave it 4/5 Instead of 5/5.

Difficulty level I would say this game has a medium difficulty level. probably for 7 and older.

Gameplay 5/5 awsome. Lots of Choices.

Overall 5/5 as I said best racing game ever.

Pros:

awsome graphics
good sound
lots of choices
cool characters
crazy but fun levels
two different race styles, world and stadium
easy controls
good difficulty level

Cons:

Only one thing... NOTHING!!!!Its all pros!

One more thing, watch the intro. trust me.

so if I could suggest, if you are looking for a new, cool, fun, worthwhile game, get SPLASHDOWN RIDES GONE WILD!!!!!!!!!!!

Ghosts and Ghouls overtake the village on that last lap, while on the first lap things are relatively peaceful in Haunted Mansion.

While those are cool, and the new waves are awesome. In this game you got, small chops, rollers, large swells, and a multitude of different simulated wave types like downhill currents, raging rapids, and even water jet streams that push you foward at blazing speeds. This game does have a few problems I am dissapointed with. Firstly, they have completely taken out the free camera control. I don't know about you but one thing I liked in the first splashdown was moving the camera down and slightly to the left to give me a real sense of speed while racing. You can no longer do that. The second you be, with all of the detailed things going on in the tracks, the frame rate seems to stutter a little bit. And Finally, the game has lost some of it's simulation feel to the sea-doos. When you used to be able to dig down into the water to make quick turns, when you push yourself into the water during turns your sea-doo doesn't feel quite as heavy as it did in the original splashdown. You can still go under water and pop yourself up mind you, I'm just talking about when you turn you don't seem to bleed enough speed hence taking away some of the simulation appeal of the first game.

All in all. I am really impressed with the new courses. But other than the major 8 courses I am impressed with. All of the 12 indoor and 20 outdoor (open ocean with simple barracades on the side of you) courses don't feel unique. I feel this game could have used about 20 less technical time trails and about 8 more major outdoor themed tracks. I don't think it is a terrible game at all. I think I just like the original splashdown better. I hope my thoughts on the game have helped anybody who agrees with me that some of those minor features that were taken away, really are and important element. This game is not worth the original retail price if you ask me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Game (Just like the first)!, August 13, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Splashdown: Rides Gone Wild (Playstation 2) (Video Game)
Don't think that just because you own the first Splashdown, you have seen all the series has to offer. This sequel is well worth buying, especially since it is cheaper than most PS2 games.

The major differences between Splashdown and Splashdown: Rides Gone Wild is the realism factor. The original tried to be somewhat of a sim while having some arcade features. The new one does the opposite. It has very arcade-like levels and trick combos, but still maintains a slightly realistic feel. It also has excellent realistic looking water graphics just like the original did.

Another difference between this and the first game is the sound. The first featured several Alternative/Rock bands for its soundtrack. However, this one has all original music that is not at all Alternative or Rock, but it works for the game.

Overall, if you played and liked the first Splashdown, you will not be disappointed with the sequel. It is a bit different, but hey, a sequel shouldn't just be a rehash of the first one. I think the changes they made were for the better. If you've never played the original Splashdown, but enjoy racing games (like SSX) then you will also enjoy the new Splashdown.

All right, I'll right this review. Its embarrasing to say this cuz I like the hardcore violence in games like Halo, Red DEad REvolver, Fable, and Red Faction. Its hard to say that this kiddie game is right up there with them. The graphics are incredible, the controls are smooth, the race tracks are cool (but the soundtrack sucks, I'm a Metal Maniac and this game has pop) and most of all, It's fun! This game is great for anyone who just wants to have fun.
