5.0 out of 5 stars Now perfect November 27, 2012

I got this for my new Kindle Fire HD 8.9" tablet. It's pretty awesome what you can do with it. I mainly want to use it to control my PowerPoint presentations from my PC to my video projector. It works just fine for that. There's just one little quibble that I have. The PC desktop does not use all of the real estate on the 8.9" screen. It's designed for a 7" screen. The developer needs to update the app so that it detects the larger size of the Kindle 8.9" and adjusts accordingly.

Update: My comments above were for my Dell 1720 running Windows 7. I upgraded to an Asus running Windows 8. Neither Splashtop HD, Splashtop Whiteboard, or Splashtop 2 worked properly. They would connect through my Kindle with the Asus, but I got a blank screen on the Kindle. However, the cursor was there and would function between the two devices. After some investigation, I came across a fix on the Splashtop site. Here's the website address, in which a few other issues are also addressed: support-splashtop2.splashtop.com/entries/21516892-why-do-i-see-a-black-green-screen-on-my-tablet-phone

2nd update: I had previously titled my review "Almost perfect" because of the "real estate" issue mentioned above. Great news. An update to the app has solved this problem. The entire screen of the Kindle HD 8.9" is now used by the Splashtop HD app. Thanks Splashtop!

The original Splashtop was marred by the fact that it was horribly insecure. Then they came out with this HD version. Yes, it is more secure, but comes with expensive hidden fees and extremely limited service.

Soon after, they changed the way you authenticate: you now can only use their authentication server and must give them an email address. If you want to use it from anywhere, then you have to pay yet again via SUBSCRIPTION to use the Anywhere Access Pack.

Note that there is no mention of having to give Splashtop your email address or to allow their servers to be the middle man in your communications with your computer.

Jump Desktop is a far superior application. It doesn't require any additional fees, it doesn't require you to go through Jump Desktop's servers or to give Jump any information. No special account is needed. In fact, if Jump Desktop went out of business tomorrow, the software will still work because Google isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

This app is expensive enough, and then to expect you to pay ongoing subscription fees to do what it promised to do is unacceptable. Just say no and find another solution, especially since Splashtop may decide to tighten the nooses around its paying customers' necks yet again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super great on the xoom August 18, 2011

Was using the non HD splash version, and decided to try this HD version since its on sale for 4.99. All I can say is wow what a diffrance in clearity. Using it on my 3g Xoom and it works great once you configure your router (mine netgear) also works outside of the home wifi again after you configure your router. l recommend it on the Xoom. The operation of moving your pointer is wayyy smoother than the non HD version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly August 18, 2011

This was my first app purchase for my Acer Iconia A500 tablet from the Amazon App Store and I'm so glad I took a chance on it. Super easy to get the program setup on my two Windows 7 computers (one 32 bit, one 64 bit), and this is honestly better than I'd imagined it would be. Sound works perfectly, too. Can't say enough good things about this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unfreakingbelievable! January 17, 2013

THIS app solved a MAJOR problem for me! I guess I wanted my cake, and wanted to eat it too. I wanted all of the functions of a laptop in a very compact 10.1 inch package, but I also wanted all the fun of a tablet. I nearly returned my tablet because it was more fun than functional with using all of the mobile apps that were not Word, PowerPoint, etc. Splashtop solved this problem, and I can't be more thrilled! I'm getting my actual desktop, and working it like I would at home in every way - except on my tablet. The only shortcomings I guess come with the territory: You have to leave your computer on and set it to not sleep or hibernate. Also, when Splashtop is connected, your screen will not turn off either. Both a small price to pay, I guess! Thank you for an awesome product! (By the way - when are we getting Splashtop 2 HD?)

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressed May 29, 2014

I've spent a lot of time with several different remote desktop software over the last few years and all previous apps were more hassle than they were worth to use, from poor displays to performance issues. Some just plain didn't want to connect.

This is my third go around with Splashtop, and this app works exceptionally well. Prior versions of Splashtop I have did not replicate my screens well nor did they stream sound, but this time they got it right. What is displayed on my monitor is faithfully replicated on my Kindle hdx 8.9 full screen. The sound plays fine while streaming vids from my movie collection stored on my home network. I use this access two different laptops run through a kvm (keyboard, video, mouse) switch and the only problem I've encountered is that whichever machine does not have focus of the kvm displays a bit off, but that is because the laptop reverts to it's native screen resolution when not displaying to the monitor, the active one is fine. This is not a bug, it's simply the way the laptops operate.

It is very easy to set up, and does a fantastic job working through the home network. Outside the home it connects easily using 'internet discovery", and a registered google account, using internet access somewhat reduces the apparent performance but this is expected when every ISP limits your upload speed while bragging of their download performance. You may have to port forward on your router, but the software can lead you to help with this if that is an issue.

To sum up, I would recommend this app to anyone who wants to access their PC from their tablet from the internet or your livingroom.... it's well worth the money/coins.
