Product Description
Access any file on your home computer remotely

You're out and about with your Android device and you suddenly realize that you need to access a file sitting on your home computer. You're stuck, right? Not if you have Splashtop Remote Desktop, an app that brings your entire computer to your phone or tablet.

Note: If you have an Android 3.x tablet, it is recommended that you download Splashtop Remote Desktop HD. This version features enhanced performance and is optimized specifically for Android 3.x/Tegra-based tablets.

Complete Virtual Access

With this app, you can control your home computer from your Android device via Wi-Fi or a 3G/4G connection. Get Splashtop Remote Desktop and you can view your desktop, use your regular Web browser with your plug-ins and bookmarks, and access all your important PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook files.

Liberate Your Multimedia

Want to listen to music or watch movies that are "trapped" on your computer while you're on the go? Not a problem. Splashtop Remote Desktop can smoothly stream high-res video and audio from your PC or Mac to your Android device. Watch videos in any format (including Flash), listen to your entire music library, and play PC games to your heart's content.

View and listen to all kinds of media formats
Do It All, Wherever You Are

With Splashtop Remote Desktop you can:

• Watch Flash videos (Hulu, AOL Video, Yahoo Video, etc.), DVDs, and Media Center content

• Listen to music stored on your computer in any format (WMV, Real, WMA, MP3, AAC, etc.)

• Play 3D games such as World of Warcraft, StarCraft, Civilization V, and more

• Play Facebook Flash games like FarmVille, CityVille, Pet Society, Cafe World, FrontierVille, and Mafia Wars

• Use non-Android programs such as Quicken and iPhoto

Note that to use this app, you must also install Splashtop Streamer on your home computer; this can be downloaded free from Splashtop's website. A dual-core CPU is strongly recommended for the best performance. Splashtop Remote Desktop works only devices running Android OS 2.2 or higher. It supports all versions of Windows 7, Vista, and XP, including Home Premium. Mac users must have at least Snow Leopard (10.6).

4.0 out of 5 stars Wish it had encryption but still great for Kindle Fire December 13, 2011

This app works great with the Kindle Fire and will not require any complex steps to get up and running for most people.

My only complaint is the lack of optional end-to-end encryption at the time of this review. This is one reason why Splashtop is so much faster than the competition. On Splashtop's official support forum, they also admit this was done on purpose to maximize performance. This is fine, but I think there should be optional encryption for those who won't mind slower performance in favor of a more secure connection on public wi-fi.

You do indeed need to create a security code for your computer and the Android app so it's not like your computer and your Android device is left wide open to be taken over, but the session can still be snooped on. The good news is that I read a forum post by a staff member on September 1, 2011, that additional security features are being planned. I will edit this review when those security features are released.

Another piece of good news is that encryption isn't really needed when you use this app to connect to your own computers on your own home network as long as your wi-fi is secured properly (preferably using at least WPA2). When using Splashtop on public wi-fi networks at restaurants, cafes, library, airport, etc, you are at a risk since there is no encryption like with some other remote desktop apps for Android. Honestly, most people are not going to bother snooping on your remote desktop session or even know how to do it, but the risk is still there if you happen to be on the same public network as someone savvy and crooked enough to do it.

So for now, I will only use this app on my own home network.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the greatest App or Program Ever December 11, 2011

I have been working with computers since 1977. For the person who wants to remotely see and function with your home computer, this is priceless. It does everything you can do remotely, even a CTR-ALT-DEL. It's like you are sitting in front of it. It even uses any shortcut keys you have set up at home. You can play all of the music, pictures, videos you have on your home computer remotely. I create Microsoft Office documents remotely and file or mail them anywhere. I am an old guy of 70, but when I visit your grandchildren it's great to show them anything I have on my computer at home, even movies of their 1st birthdays. And the biggest feature is it works as an App or on any other computer you have. So when I want to do something involved I can use my laptop from anywhere I can get a WiFi signal, my family room, bathroom, car, Mickey D's or anyone you visit who has WiFi. Easy to install, but Splashtop support is unreal; it's the best I have ever had. I know I sound like I own the company, wish I did, these people know how to run a business.

5.0 out of 5 stars I just love this!!!! December 2, 2011

I have been trying out so many different applications to sync my Kindle Fire to my desktop, and none really did all I wanted them to do, and some are costly once past the trial period. This application is a true GEM!!!!! Very easy to set up on the Kindle and the desktop. I went immediately to my desktop from the Kindle and it was like being on my desktop! There will be no need to sync two or three different programs now to get all I need. I use the Palm Desktop as I love having a calendar and contacts, memos, and tasks all in one place. I am very spoiled with the Palm desktop and was trying to find something to match it in syncing. With Splashtop - my whole computer is there!! Right now, I would give it a 10 if I could! Definitely a must have!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yay super quick help December 1, 2011

Alright, so on the Kindle fire, I couldn't figure out how to connect using the internet, connecting via lan was easy.

To connect to the internet, as they said, once you've opened the app (but not connected yet), click on the _kindle_ menu at the bottom, then click on the little page icon in that menu, that will get you to the internet discovery screen, then just sign in to gmail and you're done on the kindle side. Just sign in to gmail with the streamer on your pc side too and you'll see it now!

Easy to do, but was frustrating trying to find the settings because I didn't realize it was integrated into the kindle menu...

Anyways, thanks for the help guys, once you're in, this program is actually pretty amazing. Not flawless, but useful and it really gets your inner geek going to be doing it. :)

I've tried competing products, and all of them do a better job of protecting your data and your privacy. Splashtop Remote Desktop requires you to sign up on its website for an account AFTER you have PAID for the software! Otherwise, the software won't work. They require personal information, and after you do that they have complete, unfettered access to all of your documents, files, and information on your device. The EULA admits to harvesting information, so how can you possibly trust them? Additional signs that this company cannot be trusted is the fact that they refuse to use encryption on the connection. Therefore, if you use this on a public wifi, anyone can access your device. The risks aren't worth it, especially at the high price being asked.

Additionally problematic is the lack of Linux support. Strange, because Android IS Linux. Why isn't the "streamer" available for Linux? The company's website is almost derelict in support information, so, of course, Linux is mentioned nowhere on the site.

I don't know how they earned so many five-star ratings. I must assume it is from people who don't have a clue about the security and safety of their data and their information. My recommendation is to stay far away from this app, and if you already have it I recommend you remove it and find another alternative.

Malware? Coincidence?
As a reviewer pointed out, this software does NOT currently provide encryption on either end of the connection. What this means is that if you were using this on an open network, such as Starbucks, etc., and a devious person were "listening" on that network, they could pick up any... Read more

Splashtop and Kindle Fire
I'll add my question to this. I'm considering a Kindle Fire 4G. I have a home network, and will be using this in another part of the house, accessing my desktop, browser, and network. Splashtop vs LogMeIn
One thing... Splashtop has no encryption so the sessions could be snooped unless you're just using it on your own home network to access your home computer. Also, LogMeIn has a fully functional free version.
