3.0 out of 5 stars it is small and it leaks -- a VERY bad value
Bought this because I was out of Splenda and out of time - a crazy schedule. This is NOT a large box like at Costco - more like two of the ones from Walmart. Although it was packets, it was FULL of splenda POWDER which leaked all over everything (floor, counters, etc) before I even got the wrapping off the box. There were no cuts in the box - so the leak was not...

4.0 out of 5 stars Love Splenda but I now use Stevia powder, January 19, 2012
This review is from: Splenda No Calorie Sweetener, Granular, Individual Packets, 700-Count Box (Grocery)
As someone who has lived with diabetes for the past fifteen years, I've done tons of research to find a healthy (and cost-effective) alternative to sugar to satisfy my cravings for something sweet I've always used splenda and was very happy with it until recently it started causing me gastrointestinal problems. Nothing serious but definitely not what I wanted. then I discovered Stevia powder. I've always been a big splenda fan but I've began to experiment using Stevia in the kitchen as a sugar substitute for the past couple months, and I absolutely love it. Tastes great in coffee! But also have been using it in my baking to lower the sugar content and thereby lowering the calories!

The price is also very reasonable even more so than splenda or any other sugar subistute for that matter. The best deal I've found is on amazon of course; 30 Grams (1.06 ounces) Stevia 95% Steviosides Bulk Powder. Taste is really my number one concern and since it tastes just like sugar and also is quite cheap, I think I found my new cure to my sugar craving attacks. I have found that with this product as little as half of a teaspoon equals a full cup of sugar so be careful when measuring, a little goes a long way!

There were no cuts in the box - so the leak was not caused by a mistake by the delivery person. It is simply inferior product from the manufacturer. So, I'm so busy I order this online, yet noe I have to scrub up all this mess off of everything. Go to Costco, get more for much less. And it won't leak all over the place, either.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, July 18, 2010

I have found many of the packages to be off-cut. This means many are already empty, or worse emptying themselves all over the counter and me. I realize this is typically done by machine, but it still does not make the product better. Where is the quality control?

4.0 out of 5 stars 1400 Calories of Tasty Zero Calorie Artificial Sweetener, February 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Splenda No Calorie Sweetener, Granular, Individual Packets, 700-Count Box (Grocery)
Splenda No Calorie Sweetener, Granulated, in packets.

I like the taste, after taste and texture of this product. I love sweets, but I am working on losing weight. I exercise every day, but that is not enough. I had been adding a lot of granulated Splenda (and the granulated generic sucralose sweetener) to my diet drinks, fruit, juice and almost everything. It says zero calories, so a big time sugar junkie like me should be able to eat just as much or more than the amount of sugar that I would have eaten and still lose weight. But it was no calories, so I used even more. Suddenly my whole world was sweet.

But I was gaining weight and it didn't add up. I looked up sucralose and went to the Splenda web site. There it explained that legally, if a serving has less than 5 calories then they are entitled to call it zero calories. But the vendor decides how much is in a serving. If you make the serving size small enough, any food can be labeled zero calorie (that's an industry serving regulation if I ever heard of one). Splenda says the serving size is 1 teaspoon and as long as it has less than 5 calories they can call it zero calories. Sucralose by itself really does have nearly zero calories in any amount I would use. But I was still gaining weight.

So I looked again. The numbers just were not adding up. What else is in there? It sure isn't pure sucralose or there would be a lot less product in the bag. Well, the filler is malto dextrin. This is a safe well known sugar that has been in food products for decades. It has calories, but not as much as table sugar. It's about 1/8 of the calories of regular table sugar. That is a significant reduction. But it is not zero. If you consume this entire box you will consume about 1400 calories.

1.0 out of 5 stars Figures Don't Lie, But Liars Figure (Reprise), April 14, 2009

[Note: This review has been attached to another Splenda product and some have found it to be helpful, so I'm reposting it on this product.]

Don't get me wrong -- I'm not some nut job who thinks this stuff will give you cancer. I'm just really miffed at the fact that Splenda has plenty of carbohydrates in it -- 24 grams per cup!! They get away with this by setting their serving size to 1 tsp, which is 0.5g. Would you believe that in one half gram of product there is less than one gram of carbohydrate!? No way!!

The sweetener sucralose is not a carbohydrate, but since it's 600x as sweet as sugar, they need to bulk it up to make it measure like sugar. But all the maltodextrin they use for filler is carbohydrates.

This could really screw up somebody on Atkins' Induction phase. For example, the day before I learned this, I made some Kool-Aid with Splenda. I didn't know that in 2 quarts I was drinking down 24 carbs!

What to do? Find somebody online who sells liquid sucralose. They use water as the filler, it's super-concentrated still, and it truly has 0 carbs. I look forward to the day when McNeil Nutritionals meets the demand for ZERO-carb Splenda. (That's 0.0g, not 0.49g!)

[The liquid sucralose I currently use is Sweetzfree and I also had good experience with ZCS.]

Buying the 700 count box of healthy Splenda on Amazon sure beats buying the smaller boxes at your local grocery store or supermarket.

If you'd rather just see a smaller 100 count box on your shelf, then just transfer some of the Splenda packets from this giant box to the smaller box!

Seriously, the savings are considerable, and the product is of the highest quality.

Splenda was recommended in my diabetic education classes. It tastes like sugar and is made from sugar. Sucralose sure beats those other artificial sweeteners in the pink and blue packets.

Do your health a favor and try Splenda!

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Condition, September 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Splenda No Calorie Sweetener, Granular, Individual Packets, 700-Count Box (Grocery)
This box of Splenda individual packets was in terrible condition. All the packets appear to have been exposed to excessive moisture. The Splenda inside is all caked and lumpy. It is impossible to use any of the packets. Cut them any which way and more than half the Splenda remains inside. A complete waste of good money. I would give zero stars if I knew how.

5.0 out of 5 stars Say goodbye to sugar, October 3, 2008
This review is from: Splenda No Calorie Sweetener, Granular, Individual Packets, 700-Count Box (Grocery)
I could not use any of the not-to-be-named pre-Splenda sweeteners. I simply could not tolerate their taste AND the after-taste. I've been a Splenda user ever since it became available because... well... the taste is VERY close to sugar's own and, as far as I know, there are NO side effects.

My understanding of the Splenda technology is that the process starts with what is supposed to be a 'sugar' molecule and then ONE atom is replaced with another which makes it impossible to digest so it simply passes through your digestive tract. You get zero calories, good taste and no side effects.

So... what's not to like? The price? That's were the wisdom of buying these large but not too heavy Splenda boxes comes from. Buy in bulk and save :). 1000-count and 2000-count boxes are available.

I NEVER put anything sweet into my tea or my coffee - a habit I probably developed during those dark, sad, pre-Splenda days - but, when it comes to Cappuccino... it's a different story. I am reaching for the little yellow packets. A box of these lasts me for a long, long time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Caused Insomnia in my husband and myself, January 2, 2008

Splenda causes insomnia in my husband and me. This effect is reproducible: have Splenda, sleep poorly. If you have intermittent insomnia, look at your diet.
