The high rating is for the rarity and number of the illustrations, many of which have never been reproduced before. Admittedly, the drawings may appear a little naive, but this adds to their visual appeal. Lots of unexpected uniform details are captured in these pictures. Truly a feast for the eyes even if you don't read French!
