Considering the last time I tried to read a Regency romance novel I almost burned the thing--I was really pleasantly surprised by this book.

Ada Surringham is the orphaned niece of Lord Jasper. She is "a bubblehead" as she describes herself, often her thoughts completely leave whatever task she is doing or conversation she is in the middle of to follow some other thought pattern. She looses things and doesn't realise it, etc, etc.

I found it almost unbelievable how absentminded Ada is in this book, it gets a wee bit absurd. As the book moves on and we get more from her perspective it gets a little more beleiveable, as the author puts us inside of Ada's mind.

She is sent to London, by her uncle, in hopes of beating her cousin to an invitation for a season on the ton. Due to a few problems and misunderstandings Ada arrives after her cousin and is assumed to be the new library assistant. Living in disguise--unwilling to let her uncle know of the shame of her mistakes, she calls herself Ada Surrey, living under the same roof as her cousin and godmother but not letting them know.

The fly in the oil is the hero of the story, Griff--Viscount Mullineaux. He has met Ada before, but does not know her name. He does know that she is not the library assistant--he also knows, inspite of his usual taste for married women that he is very attracted to Ada.

This was a pretty fun book to read, some of the written accents got a bit annoying, but fortunately most characters didn't have them. It all comes together in one huge ensemble scene which is pretty funny. There is a bit of the Cinderella fairytale to this Regency story, but with very different characters.

I have started buying out of print books of the old regency. A lot are duds but this was really GREAT!!!One of my favorites.
