This book is beautiful to behold and a wealth of information. The plates are truly wonderful - pure colors and HD in every way. It's hard to read the book with so very many photos to distract you, but it's worth making the effort to stay concentrated. Highly recommended.

This is a very preliminary review as I have not delved into the book full time, however my first-and continuing impression is that it is a wonderfully researched and pictorially beautiful work. I was also impressed by the imput of the Patriarch in this work. I'll soon get down to reading this work from cover to cover, but am very pleased by it so far.

The book itself is marvelous as I expected. But it arrived with one corner bumped and crinkled, I suspect because it was sent in a simple cardboard mailer. For a book costing $107.00, I would have expected a bit more care and to have it arrive in pristine condition.

"Splendor and Pageantry" by Marlene Breu and Ron Marchese is a wonderful book, highlighting the contributions of generations of Armenian artists to the Armenian Church. In their meticulous work, the authors have shed light on the cultural history of Istanbul and the contribution of Armenian artists. The textile treasures document the "Constantinople Style" of Armenian art and the beautiful works produced. The authors also discuss the relationship between faith and the artist's production, emphasizing the importance of this connection.
A ground breaking work-I can hardly wait for the second volume.

This is a beautiful book! My interest is in historical needlework, and the photos in the book show both the entire item and details clearly. These are not your typical glass-box-in-museum articles: The photographs showing the vestments in use by the Armenian Patriarch are a tribute to the religious faith and needlework of the artisans who placed the stitches.
The heavy, satin-finish paper used allows the stitching to be seen clearly, and the color reproduction is amazing. This is possibly the best-quality art book in my [fairly large] collection.
