Biography

Thursday have always been difficult to categorize. Although they famously rose out of New Brunswick, New Jersey’s basement culture they’ve always been far too cerebral to be considered a traditional hardcore band. Over their eleven-year career they’ve toured with everyone from the Cure to Cursive, but have retained an inherent aggressiveness that can only come from being weaned on similarly… Read more in Amazon's Thursday Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Always expect the best from Thursday., November 11, 2008
This review is from: Split (Bonus CD) [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
The Thursday Envy split comes at a time when the band is finding a new home with a new record label, and this is a little appetizer to a new Thursday album that should come out the first part of 2009. Thursday has the ability to produce songs that are passionate, moving, powerful, and energetic. They do not fail to live up to that with two really good tracks on this split. My favorite song on here may be quickly becoming one of my top five favorite songs by Thursday and that is "An Absurd and Unrealistic Dream of Peace." It starts off slow and builds into a thundering intro that lures you to repeatedly pound your fist into the air or onto a table. As always, the lyrics are exceptional and you will want to read them as you listen to the song to get the full effect. The second best song on the split is "As He Climbed the Dark Mountain" and it has some shades of Jet Black New Year in the guitar work and drums. If you are a Thursday fan this is a must have. Even for the casual music fan, pick up this split and enjoy the two good thursday songs, and the instrumental tracks are okay. As for Envy, they speak japanese, but you wouldn't know because the lyrics are drowned out by the rest of the band on most of their tracks. Instrumentally they are pretty good though. I recommend this to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars onE FOR THE eNVY FANS (5 stars for the Envy tracks), January 22, 2009
This review is from: Split (Bonus CD) [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
first let me say that i am not a fan of thursday, never have been, probably never will be, they're just not my stlye. Now with that out the way i'll get the review of the thursday part of this split over and done with as quickly as possible. Ready? GO!!! It's the same old thursday that them emo kids love, lots of medlody and singing. To me and again this is just my opinion but nothing jumped out and grabed me forcing me to pay more attention on the thursday tracks, they just felt bland and generic. Ok now onto the envy tracks. Now if you've never heard envy you maybe expecting something similar to thursday, oh how wrong you would be! Early in their career envy's sound was characterized by fast paced heavy churning music with harsh loud screaming vocals, but as time has gone by they have taken that raw emotion that they crammed into thier earlier releases and managed to slow down the pace of most of the songs while not losing any of the intensity of their original sound. They are one of the few bands to successfully transition from straight hardcore/metal to epic metal soundscapes that build to thundering creshendos of emotion and a truly satisfying release. Simply put they are awesome but again that is just my opinion. If your a fan of envy pick this up, it's a good showing by the boys from tokyo!
