Book Description

February 16, 2006
Fate brought us together in the world of the living for us to continue the harmony that once only existed in this underworld.

Jacob Livingston is a young man with problems. After losing his parents to a brutal murder, he finds out he has an illegitimate half-sister, Elizabeth Livingston, who has plans to take off with his family’s fortune. Believing that Elizabeth had something to do with his parents’ deaths, Jacob goes to great lengths to discover just how much she knows.

Elizabeth hates men—especially Jacob’s father whom she believes is responsible for causing her mother’s terminal cancer. Without her mother’s protection, Elizabeth becomes an introvert who develops two very complex personalities to deal with situations that she can’t handle on her own.

In an elaborate scheme to milk Jacob’s inheritance—and eventually kill him—Elizabeth involves AJ Taylor, a clinical psychologist chosen to declare Jacob unfit to handle his estate, and Cheryl Gooden, whose involvement in Elizabeth’s life is part medicinal and part vengeance.

In the end, the situation takes a captivating turn as Elizabeth fights for her life—and Jacob, Cheryl, and AJ come to understand that all may not be what it seems.

3.0 out of 5 stars Split Indecision, February 15, 2007
This review is from: Split Indecision (Paperback)
Split Indecision, by Pierre Bateau, is a mixed adventure. Part thriller, part something else that combines fantasy, flashbacks, and a host of literary tricks, this read is surely rooted in an original plot. Jacob is a man wrought by persistent turmoil. Determined to piece together details of his parent's death, he enlists the services of a clinical psychologist. AJ Taylor's role expands as the novel advances. When Jacob tells the psychologist something odd about his sister, AJ decides that she must help him to revisit his painful past.
Meanwhile, AJ's office assistant, Cheryl, is having personal issues of her own. When the two women meet for lunch, a second twist opens the door for drama of a different flavor to develop. Then there's Elizabeth, a woman with split personalities that will make you scratch your head more than a few times. Will her good outweigh her bad, or will her bad outweigh her good? Scarred by past events, she is the catalyst for loose ends to be mended, providing closure for several relevant parties.
Although the author's delivery of the story may periodically be confusing to the average reader, the novel successfully illustrates the damage that trauma a can do when it is left untreated. Also, the author's original plot makes me wonder if penning this novel could be a foundational starting point for him. As his literary voice matures, perhaps thrillers or sci-fi reads will be added to his list of future works. If you are up to the challenge of taking a journey to fill in the blanks, Split Indecision will prove to be one unusual adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's about TIME!, March 3, 2006
This review is from: Split Indecision (Paperback)
This book is refreshingly different. The characters are real and the story is wild! I can't believe the authors immagination. All through the book you follow the characters intense situations and when you move from one character to the next you almost have to stop worring about what just happened to see what's going to happen next! Oh my god this book was good! I read it in just two days and it was so worth the money. For once the sterotypes are put aside in a book that it just crazy entertaining and as crazy as the story is, it's believable!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's A Thin Line Between Sane and Insane, June 2, 2006

This review is from: Split Indecision (Paperback)
Pierre Bateau's novel SPLIT INDECISION is a thrilling roller coaster ride. Elizabeth Livingston, the bipolar and illegitimate daughter of Jacob Livingston Jr., enjoys controlling others for her benefit. She keeps her half-brother, Jacob, who believes she is responsible for murdering his parents, drugged and at her beck and call. She feels she is close to obtaining everything she wants. Her plans include infiltrating the lives of AJ Taylor, a clinical psychologist and Cheryl Gooden, her receptionist.

Plagued with constant blackouts and multiple personality changes, Elizabeth is not sure of her own actions. Leaving in her wake, a long trail of dead bodies, is Elizabeth the actual culprit? Who is really killing all of these individuals? Why is Elizabeth obsessed with Cheryl? What part does AJ play in the chain of events?

The story's concept is excellent. It was totally different from anything I've read before but following it was very confusing. The author told the story from first person point of view, but there were too many characters involved and also too many different personalities the protagonist assumed. There were times I had no idea which character was relaying the events. The multiple changes in the point of view occurred within a single chapter. The book was well written as far as typographical and grammatical format but thorough content editing could have cleared up the plot confusion. I would recommend this book for someone who loves a good mystery because of the uniqueness of the story.
