My Morning Jacket at their best.,

The third entry in Jade Tree's split EP series, this one is an amazing number. The opening song by MMJ, "O is the One That is Real" is one of their most "rocking" numbers ever. It is followed up by two lighter more classic MMJ numbers that are still strong MMJ. If only their other 2002 EP had been so consistent."The Year in Review" is a quick super-fast rendition of the first three tracks. Songs: Ohia's only contribution, "Translation" is definitely intriguing, but I'm not familiar with their prior work so I can offer you no comparison. If you like MMJ, or are looking for a [well priced] impulse buy- get this.

this was quite the find. i bought this because im a my morning jacket fan. im glad i did because it turned me onto another amazing band, songs: ohia. little mellower than MMJ but if you like then you should like songs. the year in review was kind of unnecessary.

Songs: Ohia + My Morning Jacket = Great Combination,

I freaked when I found out 2 of my favorite bands put out a split together! Sounds like the other reviewers know nothing about Jason Molina's Songs: Ohia. Which is kind of sad because he's one of the greatest modern folk songwriters of our time. What you're probably here for is the My Morning Jacket tracks, which are all exceptional beyond reason! I'm actually finding "O Is the One That Is Real" quite possibly the most addictive MMJ song I've ever heard, and the other 2 contributions are top notch as well with that gorgeous pre-Z sound that I loved so much (but son't get me wrong! I LOVE Z!). You can kind of ignore "The Year In Review", which is just the first 3 tracks sped up to sound like a mouse being drowned. Funny the first time, annoying the second. I always just skip that filler. Thankfully, the real magnum opus of the album comes after that with the absolutely epic 10 minute dragger by Songs: O! Jason Molina is the master of long, slow, and insanely likable. If you love "Translation", I HIGHLY suggest you pick up the album, "Didn't It Rain" for more Songs: Ohia perfection. I absolutely love this band more than I can say. Also check out "Lioness", "Impala", and "Magnolia Electric Co.", or any Songs: O record! If you like MMJ's influences, then I'm sure they'll be right up your alley! All in all, a very great and necessary release! kind of funny that Jade Tree released it, though. Never would've expected that! Buy it!
