I love this book! It's an absolutely charming romp through a rainy day... from rain hitting the window pane to jumping in puddles and making mud pies (and yes, washing up afterwards.) The illustrations are gorgeous and the story reads like a joyful poem. So much fun, it makes me wish it would rain soon! This book is a keeper.

"I sing a little mud song,
a puddle song,
a muddle song,
a no-shoes, toes-ooze,
slip-slap-and-thud song."

I just bought Split! Splat! for my four-year-old nephew. I can't wait to read it to him when I visit later this month.

Preschoolers and kindergartners will really like this book, which is filled with onomatopoeic words that mimic the sound of falling rain, of splashing in puddles, and of sloshing in mud. The secret is that I also love it. Now, even hours after I read the book, I still have the sing-song rhythms of this book is going through my head! It's fun to say the words! Pip. Pip. Pip. Pip.

I can't think of any other book that so perfectly conveys the fun to be had on a rainy day. While the illustrations are energetic, colorful and full of joy, it's the rhymes that are the star in this fun offering. They roll off the tongue seamlessly in a way that perfectly evokes a rainy day in all of its splish, splash, splooshing, puddle jumping, drippy, drop, drop drip, mucka mucka chucka wucka, pitter pattering glory. This book is fun to read and fun to listen to.

There aren't many words per page, and those big, expressive characters mark this as a good choice for toddler story times. Pull this book out the next time your little one complains about the rain and watch their eyes light up at the possibilities. A great choice for story time, or any toddler's personal collection.

This book is a lot of fun. My oldest daughter loved it from the second she saw it and wants it to rain so she can act it out. It is the wonderful playful story of playing in the rain First the sound of rain while inside, then the sound of rain outside, then splashing and playing in the mud, to the sun coming out and a muddy mess in the house. The illustrations are done in a water-color-like style with softer shades but bright colors. The full page illustrations are awesome and the way the words are integrated into the pictures in different ways and with different sizes is also fun. This book became an instant favorite in our home and I am sure it will in yours also.

A delightful rainy day read! Like Denise Fleming's books, Amy Gibson's writing is simple, rhyming prose that expresses the experience of a rainy day. It is less of a story per se, and more of a feeling. The use of alliteration combined with sound words make for a fun and entertaining book.

The illustrations are bright, colorful and fun. They are a perfect match for the writing. I hope to find more books illustrated by Steve Bjorkman. His style is simple, yet very engaging.
