5.0 out of 5 stars Tight-knuckled old school platforming fun, August 17, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Splosion Man [Online Game Code] (Software Download)
Make no mistake: this game is HARD. Not at first, though. It eases you into it, making you think it's gonna be a breeze, but then they ramp up the difficulty and 'splode timing. If you like old school platforming games, this one is not to be missed. The only difference here is the frustration factor present in most of the older games is missing here. It is just pure fun. 40% platformer, 40% puzzle game, 20% time trial racer = 100% awesome.

If you are a person who played games over 20 years ago, you might remember a time when most games were in 2D, that is to say, you were usually a character that moved from left to right, jumping his way past obstacles to reach his or her objetive. If any of this brings warm and fuzzy feelings of nostalgia, you might want to check out 'Splosion Man.

Not only does this appeal to the old school gamer sensibilites, it also harkens back to a more fun oriented design of games, when the were simple by necesity, but also fun by a careful balance of said design. You control the 'Splosion man in this game via the Dpad or thumbstick, while all the face buttons make you explode. This simple to get control scheme actually opens up the game, making it more about you being good at it than learning 20 odd moves to finish a game. It's all about you and the levels, many of which will make you remember those days of throwing fits and controllers out of frustration.

While I do admit the game gets very hard at points, it's possible to skip levels and even play levels with friends. It's the kind of game that makes you feel very satisfied at the moment you get past that tricky obstacle or clear that maddening jump that had you screaming. If you can take that with a little sadistic smile, than I recommend you download this game today.

This game is totally worth $10. In my opinion it's worth $20.

The game can be really hard, and frustrating, especially when playing multiplayer for the first few times but the learning curve isn't a very big one. Using 'Splosion Man's unique 'Splosion ability you can jump off walls, 'Splode bad guys into steak, and race around to the end of the levels. Some of the levels can get quite frustrating but the game contains enough easier levels to balance out the frustrating ones.

The game also has some nice replay value due to hidden Cake to collect and the time trial aspect. If you have a group of friends (it's a four-player co-op!) the fun really begins as the multiplayer levels are 100% different from the single player ones. You need to work together to get past the multiplayer levels which adds the fun.

Once you get past the initial learning curve, which isn't very big, I'd give this game a 10/10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Fun!, August 17, 2009

"Everybody love doooOOOooonuts" -this is just one of the quirky highlights of this game. This 2.5-D sidescrolling game is one that stands out from the rest in it's humor and interesting puzzles. It's a difficult game at times, but one that you won't want to stop once you start. And at $10 (800 MS points), it's a steal!

5.0 out of 5 stars Its a man that explodes, November 4, 2010
This review is from: Splosion Man [Online Game Code] (Software Download)
This game is about a lab experiment that escapes and tries to well escape the lab by doing what it does best...explodes. Its Explosion Man. A fun platformer that challenges the player to solve hard puzzles using the character's ability to explode. At first the levels are fun and easy but as the game goes on, they become really tough. In fact expect to die...a lot. I mean die more times then there are levels. In fact the game doesnt expect most users to play it through by adding a feature so that everytimes you die a certain amount of times in a level, you can skip it...and then wear a tutu until you beat a level.

Aside from the hard difficulty for later levels, this game is very fun to play. It currently costs 800 microsoft points which is a bargain for such a game.
